The Blue Oval has enjoyed its fair share of comparison test wins as of late, with the Ford F-150 beating out the Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra, and Ram 1500, the Lincoln Navigator edging out the Cadillac Escalade by a small margin, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E taking care of the Chevy Blazer EV. Both the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y are coming off recent refreshes as well, which makes now the perfect time to revisit that rivalry, and that’s precisely what just happened.
MotorTrend just pitted the refreshed 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E against the updated Tesla Model Y, and noted that both have improved in various ways as a result. MT isn’t a huge fan of the Model Y’s exterior styling, but does appreciate its interior updates, which it says results in a cabin that “now feels richer and far more befitting the car’s price.” It’s also a fan of the Mach-E’s switch to a steering column-mounted gear selector, which frees up space in the center console.
In terms of the driving experience, MT notes that the Model Y does ride better than its predecessor, which was often criticized for its poor ride quality. However, it also adds that “the Ford is far more pleasant on a long jaunt than the Tesla,” even if the Model Y’s cabin is quieter. The rag also prefers the Mach-E’s seats, which are “softer and have more cushions,” but notes that the Model Y has more rear seat space and larger door openings.
Tech is a mixed bag given the fact that both of these EVs rely on screens more than physical controls, but MT does prefer BlueCruise to Tesla’s FSD Supervised semi-autonomous software, as it’s a bit more consistent. The Model Y wins the charging battle by offering a max DC speed of 250 kW compared to 150 kW, though real-world range is essentially identical.
Interestingly, the Mach-E is slower by a large margin in a straight line, but MT notes that it’s more fun to drive, regardless. Throw in the fact that the Mach-E is $3,640 cheaper, and that’s enough to give it the win in this latest comparison.

I thought it was silly moving the Expedition headlight controls to the touch screen. But the Model Y put the SHIFTER there? Yikes upon yikes.
Just bought a Mach E, my first Ford ever, and have been pleasantly surprised. My spouse has a Tesla and after awhile, it’s like a cheap toy with a poor build. I made the right choice.
