Over the past few years, automotive insurance rates have skyrocketed to new record highs, a trend that doesn’t seem likely to end anytime soon. Spurred on by high parts replacement costs and other macroeconomic factors, modern day insurance rates are having a huge impact on the total ownership costs for vehicles, in general, meaning that many have begun considering them when shopping for a new car. Luckily for those considering a Ford F-150, the popular pickup remains among the cheapest of its kind to insure.
Mercury Insurance just released its list of the cheapest trucks and SUVs to insure in 2025, and the Ford F-150 has once again made the cut among pickups, specifically. It joins the Chevrolet Colorado LT, Chevrolet Silverado C3500, Ford Maverick, Ford Ranger, Hyundai Santa Cruz SE, Toyota Tundra CrewMax, Toyota Tacoma, Ford Super Duty F-350, Ram 1500, and GMC Canyon this time around. Several factors go into determining these rates, including claims on similar vehicles, costs to repair, and vehicle safety records.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the Ford F-150 make the list of the cheapest vehicles to insure, as it also landed on a similar list last year that came from Insurify. In that study, the Ford F-150 was found to be 11 percent cheaper to insure than the U.S. average, with an annual full-coverage premium of $2,069, compared to $2,329. In terms of new data from Mercury, the F-150 was joined by its all-electric counterpart, the Ford F-150 Lightning, which ranked among the top EVs with the lowest insurance costs for 2025.
“We understand that in the current climate, consumers are looking to save money on auto insurance, but we also know that many in the new-car market are looking to add a truck or SUV to their driveway,” said Chong Gao, Director of Product Management R&D for Mercury Insurance. “The good news is that there’s a lot of variety in this year’s list for consumers with different budgets and lifestyles, from compact SUVs to larger midsize ones that can handle family duty. Choosing a vehicle with utility doesn’t have to break the bank, as any of these vehicles will help keep the cumulative cost of ownership down, which is something we have always emphasized at Mercury.”
