UK Incentives Make Ford Puma Gen-E Cheaper Than Hybrid Model

In the UK, the Ford Puma has long been one of the top-selling – and in many cases, the best-selling – passenger vehicles available, as the small, efficient, and affordable crossover has clearly found its niche in that market. Thus, the debut of the all-electric Ford Puma Gen-E figures to help further interest in that model, particularly in a country that’s aiming to phase out the sale of traditional ICE models in the coming years. Now, new incentives should help in that mission, as they make the Ford Puma Gen-E even cheaper than the hybrid model.

With EV market share failing to meet required levels of growth under UK rules, Ford has long been asking the government to bring back incentives for electric vehicles, and it finally obliged mere weeks ago. Now, the Ford Puma Gen-E has become the very first vehicle to secure the full £3,750 ($5,060 USD) electric vehicle grant, which is good news for prospective buyers. It also makes the Puma EV available starting at just £26,245 ($35,416 USD, or £345/$465 less than the Puma Hybrid), or £290/$391 a month across 48-months, compared to the partially-electrified version at £324/$437.

The Ford Puma Gen-E is also being joined by the E-Tourneo Courier, which has received the full grant, and now starts out at £28,440 ($38,379) as a result. Both models were able to qualify for this incentive based on the UK government’s strict sustainability criteria, which encompasses a vehicle’s manufacturing and the brand as a whole, according to Autocar. As of now, that criteria hasn’t been revealed to the public, but Ford did say that it involved measuring emissions at the Romanian plant where both are produced, taking into account renewable energy as well.

“We welcome the government’s decision to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and are proud that Ford’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised with the full EV grant,” said Lisa Brankin, Ford UK Chair and Managing Director. “With a £3,750 saving available on the Puma Gen-E plus the convenience of the Ford Power Promise, we’re helping to make the switch to electric simpler, more affordable and more rewarding.”
