For quite some time, the Ford Escort was an incredibly popular, economical mode of transportation, one that also gained a large enthusiast following over the years as well, thanks to its participation in things like rally racing. Today, even though the Ford Escort sold in large quantities over its existence, there just aren’t that many super-nice, low-mile examples left. However, this 1992 Ford Escort GT has managed to buck that trend, and it’s up for auction right now, too.

This 1992 Ford Escort GT is currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, and it’s in great shape with a reasonable 81k miles on the clock. The sporty two-door model spent a lot of its life in California before it was acquired by the seller, and they clearly took care of it, as we can see here. The Oxford White GT sports a revised grille, spoiler, and side skirts, and remains in basically brand new condition save for a bend in the middle of the passenger-side door.

The interior is quite tidy as well, fitted with nice-looking Titanium cloth covering the front bucket seats and the rear bench seat, joined by red piping. Amenities include automatic shoulder belts up front, along with air conditioning, cruise control, crank windows, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo linked to the optional premium sound system.

Power for this Ford Escort GT comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 1.8L DOHC inline-four , which was factory-rated to produce 127 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Other notable mechanical updates for the GT included a fully independent strut-type suspension with a unique tune, larger stabilizer bars, and four-wheel disc brakes.

This is the first Ford Escort GT we’ve seen up for grabs in a while, but there are plenty of others out there for the picking. Most recently, that list has included a 1993 LX wagon with just 400 miles, as well as a 1994 LX two-door with 25k miles.

  • I owned an 83 Escort GT, the first year of fuel injection. It came equipped with Recaro seats and oddball TRX wheels. Finding replacement tires was expensive.
