2026 Ford Mustang Drops Universal Garage Door Opener

It seems like just yesterday that the seventh-generation Ford Mustang was unveiled for the 2024 model year. Since then, the pony car has remained largely unchanged, but the 2026 Ford Mustang introduces a few key updates, including the deletion of the universal garage door opener.

As per sources familiar with the matter, the universal garage door opener is no longer available on the 2026 Ford Mustang at all. Previously, the feature was included in select Mustang trims and packages, and could be had as part of the EcoBoost Premium 201A High Package. It was also standard on the 2025 Mustang GT Premium trim, and was also bundled into the Dark Horse 700A Deluxe Package. For the 2026 Mustang, though, it’s not available at all.

The 2026 Ford Mustang also sees the deletion of two exterior colors, meaning that Intense Lime Yellow and Wimbledon White are gone from the order books. It gains two other colors in their stead, which are known as Adriatic Blue Metallic and Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat. The pony car also offers a few colored seatbelt options that weren’t previously available, adding Orange, Prime Blue, and Black with a red stripe, which join Race Red on the options list. However, the Mustang Dark Horse loses its exclusive Deep Indigo seatbelt option.

Other changes concern the 2026 Ford Mustang spoiler options. No convertible models feature a standard spoiler anymore, although an optional wedge spoiler is now available on EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium fastback models. The Blade Decklid Spoiler, meanwhile, is also gone.

Meanwhile, inside, the 2026 Ford Mustang gains black foot pedals on EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium models, while the auto-dimming frameless rearview mirror is gone from EcoBoost Premium and GT trims, replaced with a manual flip framed mirror.

Another major addition is the new FX Package, which throws it back to the Fox Body Mustang with a host of 1980s-inspired design elements, like plaid seat inserts and Oxford White exterior elements. However, the Ford Mustang RTR hasn’t yet been added to the lineup.

  1. No more universal garage door opener? That’s a terribly useful feature. Bad move.

    No Jim, you don’t.

  6. Really Ford? Could you not have considered some other “cost cutting” measure besides that? Horrible decision in my opinion. Who would like to bet it is retained in the Mach E? Ridiculous!

  7. It’s amazing how one stupid, ridiculous decision like this tells you all you need to know about what’s happening at Ford.

  8. Tesla dropped Homelink as standard equipment on the Model 3 and Model Y a year or so ago. It’s still an option. Reportedly, it was used by only about 30%of buyers. It’s still standard on the Model S and Model X.

  9. So what’s the reason for dropping the universal garage opener? If it’s cost, Ford could offer it as an option….no? This move makes no sense to me. Going back to carrying the bulky garage door xmitter is two steps backwards!

Now….WHERE is that garage door xmitter??

  10. Umm……..Use it EVERY time I take the car out and return home. The problem is, some kid in a basement (probably their parents) who is now the “engineer” of the hardware/software is making the decisions on this stuff. Probably never drove much, if at all growing up. Also, if they don’t still live in their parents or someone else’s basement, which means they don’t get to use the garage, they probably live in one of those apartment buildings where the stores are on level 1, the parking garage, which probably opens the gate arm with an app or an RFID sticker, is above that, and then the actual apartments. They think that is how most people live nowadays. No idea about people who actually own a home and use the garage in their house for you know, actual cars, and not a converted room for their kid still living at home. They also are the type who think that having someone have to go through 10 menus to change something is “efficient.” No, that is fine for say the mycolor where you might change the color only a few times a year. But not the radio where volume and station should be real knobs/buttons and same for A/C. These are used for most people multiple times a day I am sure. This must be the same person who thought taking the glove box light out of 22+ Mustangs was a good idea since you know, you might put things in and out at night. If you want to decontent something, why not the dual illuminated visor mirrors. I am sure they don’t get used everyday and shouldn’t be doing makeup while driving, despite what TikTok says.

  11. This action is a testimony of how out of touch the Farley Ford has become with its customers. Convertible customers had peace of mind that some trickster couldn’t swipe their universal garage door opener. But now convertible customers will be inconvenienced in having to secure a clip-on remote from mischievous pranksters/thieves. Don’t want to carry it in my pocket after I park the car. Don’t want to lock it in the glove box… only to be inconvenienced when pulling in the driveway to have to put the car in park, disassemble the key fob, unlock the glove box, open the garage door, then reverse the process multiple times per week.

Sadly, this is so far from the Ford that I gave nearly 40 years. I worked proudly with former Ford leaders like Don Peterson, Red Poling, Alan Mulally, Derrick Kuzak, Lou Ross, and Edsel Ford. But now? I suspect very few Ford retirees still recommend Ford.

  12. Don’t know which deletion is worse.
Oh well, Mustangs aren’t selling with these features, so fo Ford, where’s the loss? If they decontented these cars AND reduced the price, they may be onto something, but I’m guessing they didn’t drop the price a nickel.

  13. No I’m really happy I took delivery of my ’25 GT yesterday as I almost considered waiting for a 2026. It’s small items like the garage door opener that go a long way in product appreciation

  14. Every time the mustang is without competition (no Camaro or challenger) ford removes options. My first mustang with garage door opener is my 2020 GT 500. Both of my Mach E have the garage opener. The next option to delete will be the remote control for the side mirrors and power windows to reduce cost

  17. I think ford vehicles should have floorboard courtesy lights front and back the over head mini lights can’t provide enough light to find something you may drop at night. 2019 Ford F150 XLT 4×4 Sport, 2022 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, 2024 Explorer Timberline 4×4. None have lights to shine in the floor boards.
