Production of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD kicked off earlier this year, as Ford Authority was the first to report. Since then, we’ve seen those production figures continue to climb after starting out a bit low, as one would expect for a brand new, bespoke product. Multimatic produced just two Ford Mustang GTD models in January in fact, none in February, three in March, one in April, and 10 in May, but things have since ramped up in a big way.
In fact, in June, a grand total of 31 Ford Mustang GTD models were produced, and that number increased to 35 units in July. Now that August is in the proverbial rear-view mirror, Ford’s newest sales report indicates that Multimatic built one more unit than the month prior – 36 – which brings its year-to-date total up to 118 units through the first eight months of the year.
Following its debut and not just one, but two sub-seven-minute lap times at Germany’s Nurburgring, the Ford Mustang GTD has gained a few options and variants in recent months. The most recent is the new Liquid Carbon Edition, which ditches paint and replaces the sheet metal in the doors with bonded carbon fiber, which saves a solid 13 pounds compared to the GTD Carbon Series with the Performance Package. It also gets carbon weave on the hood, roof, rear deck, and rear wing, along with fenders and side panels that provide a cohesive look, and the Performance Package as standard equipment.
The select few shoppers that have the means to purchase a Ford Mustang GTD and were approved to do so have access to a special configurator for that model, and its terms of sale include a commitment requiring that owners keep their cars for a minimum of two years, just like the Ford GT, which is a stipulation that aims to prevent folks from flipping those vehicles for a profit, rather than driving and enjoying them.
