Lincoln Aviator Redesign Won’t Arrive Until Next Decade

The Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer were treated to a comprehensive redesign for the 2020 model year, and just received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year. However, as they always do, things change quickly in the automotive world, and as such, we’re already looking ahead to the next update for these particular models. A recent report indicates that the Ford Explorer will be receiving its next redesign in 2029, but it seems like the new Lincoln Aviator won’t follow until slightly later.

According to Automotive News, the Lincoln Aviator is expected to receive a redesign in early 2030, shortly after the next-generation Explorer arrives. It’s slightly unusual timing given the fact that these two models share much in common and typically follow the same cadence, but things do tend to change over time. In fact, the Explorer was previously tabbed for a redesign in 2027 as recently as last year, but now, that now apparently won’t happen until a couple of years later.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the Lincoln Aviator is expected to continue to be built at the Chicago Assembly plant for the foreseeable future, following the decision to discontinue a pair of new three-row all-electric crossovers. Its most recent refresh brought forth a host of updates, including a revised front and rear fascia with an updated contoured mesh grille that’s also been raised a bit, coupled with new LED headlamps and running lamps that span the width of the front end.

Along with these changes and the typical package/option/color updates, the 2025 Lincoln Aviator also got some major tweaks inside the cabin. Those include a new, larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen present inside, coupled with a new 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, along with the relatively new Lincoln Digital Experience software, too. In terms of powertrains, the 2025 Lincoln Aviator comes equipped with just one, for now – the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, which generates the same 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque as the outgoing model, and is mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
