Ford Files To Renew Skyliner Trademark

Ford Motor Company has filed to trademark “Skyliner” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford Authority has learned.

Filed on October 9th, 2025, and assigned serial number 99435095, the application contains the goods and services description of “exterior insignia badges for motor vehicles,” “vehicle floor mats,” and “toy replicas of vehicles and collector replicas of vehicles.”

The Ford Authority Take

Ford filed to trademark “Skyline” back in 2021, but at that time, it did so under the goods and services description of “motor land vehicles, namely, SUVs, trucks and automobiles” – making it seem as if the automaker intended to revive a version of a nameplate that it has used in quite a few ways previously. That hasn’t happened, however, and now, this new trademark filing for “Skyliner” contains goods and services descriptions that merely make it seem as if Ford is considering applying the Skyliner name to accessories, replicas/toys, or perhaps as special badging or a trim level for future vehicles.

Ford used the Skyliner name on a variety of models over the years, including the Fairlane and Galaxie Skyliner in the late 1950s, which were two-door hardtop convertibles from that era. Those particular offerings were quite unique and futuristic for their time, presenting customers with the ability to have what was essentially the best of both worlds – a convertible and hardtop all in one – and today, they’re sought-after collectibles.

Additionally, Ford used the Skyliner name on a few other models, including the 1954 Crestline Skyliner – which was a hardtop coupe that had a glass roof section over the front seat. Then there was the Transit Skyliner concept from 2014, which was essentially created to show just how luxurious that van could be, as it was equipped with loads of high-end amenities.

As for what Ford has planned for the Skyliner name now, that much remains unclear, but the fact that it opted to hold onto this trademark rather than letting it expire signals that we may soon see the name applied to some sort of product.
