Following the fairly recent debut of the fourth-generation 5.0L V8 Coyote engine in the S650-generation Ford Mustang, The Blue Oval added a pair of new crate engines to the Ford Performance catalog back in April 2024 – the single throttle body Gen 4X and a regular Gen 4 setup that makes more power, but comes with dual 80mm single bore drive by wire electronic throttle bodies with variable runner control. Since then, we’ve continued to see new Gen 4 Coyote parts added to the Ford Performance catalog, including this alternator kit.
This new Gen 4 Coyote V8 alternator kit is listed in the Ford Performance catalog under part number M-8600-M50ALTD, and it retails for $425. It’s the same alternator present in the 2024 and up Ford Mustang GT, and this kit includes a belt and belt tensioner, idler pulley, and all of the mounting hardware required for installation – plus, of course, the 190-amp alternator itself.
This particular alternator kit is designed specifically for the higher RPM capabilities of the Gen 4 Coyote V8 used in the Ford Mustang, and it also fits the aforementioned crate engines. It’s also included in the power modules sold under part numbers M-9000-PMCM4 and M-9000-PMCA4, which launched back in 2024, but won’t work with Gen 1, 2, or 3, Coyote wiring harnesses.
The Gen 4X Coyote Manual Power Module debuted almost exactly one year ago, pairing the fourth-generation 5.0L V8 Coyote engine with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and everything one needs to install them in a wide variety of models. It was joined – at the same time – by the Gen 4X Coyote Automatic Power Module with the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission, along with a flexplate, torque convertor, shifter, U-joint companion flange, and transmission cooler and lines, all of which are factory Mustang GT parts.
The Gen 4X Coyote crate engine is factory-rated to generate 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque right out of the box on pump gas, and features 12.0:1 compression, an aluminum block, a Boss 302 alternator kit, a starter and starter index plate, and a tunable control pack, for those that want to add some upgrades and coax more power out of it.
