Ford Replaces FordPass As Blue Oval’s Official Ownership App

The FordPass app has been around for years to this point, and like many other automotive applications, its gives users the ability to control a number of vehicle functions from their smartphones, as well as view various pieces of information and even schedule service or view recalls. FordPass has evolved and added features over time while also expanding rapidly in terms of its user base, which makes sense given the fact that it’s quite handy for Ford owners, in general. Now, however, The Blue Oval has opted to rebrand that same app.

In Apple’s App Store, one can see that the FordPass app is now simply called Ford, with the notes revealing that “FordPass is now the Ford app,” in case we needed further confirmation. It’s unclear why the automaker opted to change the name of its ownership app, but the latest update isn’t just about that notable swap – rather, there are quite a few tweaks present, too.

As was previously the case, the Ford app allows owners to check their fuel levels, schedule service, lock/unlock doors, start the vehicle, and perform other, basic functions. However, the latest update features a totally new design with sharper visuals, light and dark modes, and “smoother flows,” according to the automaker. Users can get instant access to data regarding their vehicles, as well as mobile keys and drivers, plus smarter EV charging built into the main screen, too.

Back in May, what was formerly known as FordPass gained software update scheduling, which made it simpler to do precisely that for one’s over-the-air updates without having to enter the vehicle itself. In terms of its user base, the revamped Ford app has grown significantly, and as of September, 12 million people were using it on a daily basis, which is quite a lot compared to the 1.3 million active users of the same application back in 2020.

  • FordPass has been nothing but trouble for me. On a 2017. Might be better for newer vehicles but it has been atrocious.
