NASCAR Ford Driver Cutting Ties With Team After Just One Season

The last few seasons have been a wild ride for NASCAR Ford driver Harrison Burton. After dropping from the Cup Series to Xfinity with AM Racing (AMR) in 2025, he’s already set to move on, as Burton and the team are parting ways after just one season together.

Burton dropped the news in October 2025 with only a handful of races left in this year’s Xfinity Series campaign. As a reminder, Burton has driven the No. 25 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse for AMR, amassing 10 top 10 finishes and two top fives throughout his 29 races with the organization. He was also the first driver to bring AMR to the Playoffs for a shot at the championship – although he was eliminated after the race at the Charlotte Roval last weekend.

Prior to joining AMR, Burton raced for Wood Brothers Racing in the Cup Series, but found himself out of a ride when the team replaced him with Josh Berry for their 2025 Cup campaign. Burton has one win in that division, visiting Victory Lane after a wild race at Daytona in 2024.

“I want to thank AM Racing, Tim Self and Wade Moore for the opportunity and trust at a pivotal moment in my career after I lost my Cup seat entering 2025,” Burton wrote on social media. “From Day 1, the group’s commitment and preparation helped us deliver tangible progress. So far, we have team-record top-five and top-10 results and the organization’s first trip to the Xfinity Series Playoffs. I’m proud of how we show up each week, compete at the highest level and finish strong. I’m also grateful for the people who made this possible: our crew members, engineers, office staff, partners and the fans who have our backs everywhere we race.”

Burton’s 2026 plans aren’t clear. He will likely stay in the Xfinity Series – which will be known as the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starting next year – but eagle-eyed fans might notice something that indicates he won’t be behind the wheel of a NASCAR Ford race car. In his announcement on social media, Burton posted a photo of himself wearing his AMR firesuit with the Ford oval edited out.
