While low-mile, original owner vehicles tend to get much of the love on the collector car auction circuit these days, there are also plenty of modified models out there ripe for the bidding, too. Oftentimes, those vehicles are somewhat famous, previously featured at shows like SEMA and built by third-party companies in an effort to show off their various wares. That’s precisely the case with this 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 as well, which was built by Steeda and subsequently used as a promotional model by that aftermarket outfit for a number of years.
Now, this 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 is being auctioned off at Bring a Trailer, giving someone else the chance to own a truly one-of-a-kind build. It was originally put together as part of the Ford/SEMA Technology Transfer Initiative program and the Steeda Speedline Project Focus initiative, and later served as a promo model for that company between 2002-2005. As one can clearly see, this Focus is chock full of modifications, too – including projector-style Hella headlights, a Steeda aero kit, 17-inch Steeda wheels, along with vinyl graphics covering a freshly repainted exterior.
Inside the cabin, this Ford Focus features red and black leather seats, door panels, and side panels, with Steeda embroidery on the seatbacks. There’s also carbon fiber dash trim, a bright shifter bezel, drilled pedal covers, billet climate control knobs, aluminum door sill trim, and diamond-plate front floor coverings, plus an AM/FM/CD stereo, air conditioning, and cruise control.
Power for this heavily-modified hatch comes from the 2.0L Zetec I-4 engine, which has been fitted with an array of upgrades including a Garrett turbocharger, a Superchips tune, a hi-flow intake, 65mm throttle body, billet fuel rail, upgraded injectors, stiffer engine mounts, revised camshafts, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. It sends power to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
Capping off this extensive build are Eibach struts and shocks with Steeda sport springs, a front strut tower brace, tubular control arms, and drilled/slotted Power Slot disc brakes – making for a pretty fun and totally unique hot hatch, we’d say.
