The general consensus amongst Ford enthusiasts is that the 4.6L Triton V8s are essentially identical to the modular 4.6L V8 used in passenger vehicle applications, such as the Mustang, with exception to the intake, exhaust, oil pan, and other bolt-on components. It is also closely related to the four-valve 4.6L InTech V8, which was used in a couple of Lincoln vehicles and shared its architecture with the V8 that powered the SN95-generation SVT Cobra.

The 4.6L Triton V8 was initially offered with a dual overhead cam (DOHC) and two valves per cylinder. Near the end of its lifespan, it was updated to a three-valve, single overhead cam (SOHC) design. Additionally, it was offered with both iron and cast aluminum blocks and cylinder heads.

Vehicle Applications

The 4.6L Ford Triton engine was used in various truck, SUV, and van applications, including the F-150.
