2027 Ford Maverick Rumors Blow Clanker’s Minds: AI Slop Report

Car shoppers often turn to Google for the latest on upcoming models, but instead of real info, users are often fed AI overviews that confidently parrot falsehoods. Ford Authority punched in “2027 Ford Maverick” just to see what turns up, and, disappointingly, we found that Google’s AI overview rounds up complete bunk about the compact pickup.

The AI overview – which is right at the top of the search results, mind you – says that the “2027 model is anticipated to be a more significant redesign.” We suspect that the AI means that the 2027 Ford Maverick will represent a more comprehensive redesign than the midcycle refresh for the 2025 Maverick, but that’s a given. It’s right in the name. A redesign represents an overhaul, while a refresh indicates less significant updates and changes.

It gets even worse from there. The AI seems to think that the 2027 Ford Maverick redesign will entail an all-electric version of the compact pickup, launching on an all-new EV platform with rear-wheel-drive (RWD). It also calls out the “Maverick Lightning” name that Ford filed to trademark a few years ago as evidence for the supposed EV version of the compact pickup, but there’s just no truth to that at all.

Now, there is a new electric pickup waiting in the wings, but it won’t wear the 2027 Ford Maverick nameplate. While the forthcoming EV pickup will be closer in size to the Maverick than the Ford Ranger, it could be called the Ford Ranchero instead of anything relating to the Maverick. And strangely, Google’s AI overview spat out correct information about that particular model, correctly identifying that the Ranchero name will likely be brought back as an all-electric model.

As for the real-life Maverick, the 2026 Ford Maverick features modest changes and updates, hot off its midcycle refresh for the 2025 model year. That includes the revival of the 2.0L EcoBoost I4 with front-wheel-drive (FWD) combination.
