The 2016 Ford F-150 has just received its due recognition from Green Car Journal, having been awarded the group’s “Green Truck of the Year” award for 2016. Last year, the full-size, aluminum-bodied pickup lost out to the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel.
According to website PickupTrucks.com, the 2016 Ford F-150 won largely by virtue of its low curb weight – a result of the truck’s pioneering use of aluminum body panels – and its breadth of efficient engine options. That list of available powerplants includes a potent, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, capable of towing up to 8,500 pounds, as well as a comparatively small-displacement, 5.0-liter V8 which can tow a class-leading 12,200 pounds.
What’s more, the 2016 Ford F-150 offers a fuel-prep option to allow the truck to run on propane or CNG, and the interior is loaded with recycled and eco-conscious materials. That includes plastic bottles used to create the seat upholstery, and used denim applied to insulating the cabin.
The 2016 Ford F-150 is the second model year for the aluminum-bodied light duty pickup, and apart from this award from Green Car Journal, the truck has also received recognition this year from Kelley Blue Book.
