Following the debut of the all-new S650 generation 2024 Ford Mustang, The Blue Oval announced that it would be embarking on a major motorsports push with the new pony car as its centerpiece – or, specifically, the range-topping Mustang Dark Horse. Thus far, that has come true with the debuts of the new Mustang GT3 and GT4, the Dark Horse S and R, and the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Mustang Dark Horse. However, Ford has also enjoyed tremendous success in the world of NHRA drag racing as of late, with driver Bob Tasca III racking up wins at the 2022 NHRA Brainerd Nationals in Minnesota and the securing a 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Funny Car Wally at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kansas, to name just a couple. As such, The Blue Oval is aiming to continue that success with the just-revealed Mustang Dark Horse funny car, too.
The new Mustang Dark Horse funny car was revealed as part of Ford Performance’s 2024 season kick-off event last night, and it aims to usher in a new era for the brand in NHRA competition. This new model will make its debut during the 2024 NHRA funny car season, in fact, so we won’t have to wait much longer to see it in action.
As is typically the case, this new funny car doesn’t look a whole lot like its road-going counterpart, but there are some cues present that scream Blue Oval – including the front end design, huge “Ford Performance” script in multiple places, and a rather large pony logo covering both sides as well.
Now, Ford will look to continue its success with this brand new racer, fresh off a strong 2023 that saw Tasca III record the fastest quarter-mile time at 1,000 feet in his Mustang – 3.836 seconds – en route to his best career season finish. In 2024, Tasca will lead a group of Ford Performance funny car entries, this time, with his eyes firmly set on securing the championship.
