Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a remote maneuvering system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on February 21st, 2023, published on August 22nd, 2024, and assigned serial number 0283895.
Over the past few months, Ford has filed a few patents outlining ways that we may one day be able to link vehicles together for a common purpose – whether that be forming a security system for an entire neighborhood or making one giant stereo system using multiple models. Now, this newly published Ford patent keeps that trend going, this time, by presenting us with an idea for a remote maneuvering system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
The concept behind this particular patent filing is rather simple – it proposes incorporating a display screen inside of a vehicle such as a van, as shown here, along with a camera. There would also be a camera and video screen mounted on the outside of the vehicle, enabling people on the inside and outside to communicate with and see each other.
Additionally, Ford notes that this system could be deployed in more than one vehicle, enabling the occupants of both to communicate with each other in similar fashion – something like a smartphone video call can do now. As Ford points out in the patent, there are plenty of times when larger groups of people have to split up and take multiple vehicles to travel to the same destination, and this would provide them with a better way of communicating with each other versus simply using a phone screen.

A rather bizarre incident, indeed.
