Aside from the modern-day FP700 packages for the Ford F-150, factory-built street trucks aren’t exactly as common as they used to be. Years ago, the Ford F-150 SVT Lightning ruled that proverbial roost through two generations, but was ultimately ditched in favor of the off-road-focused F-150 Raptor as consumer preference shifted away from low-slung, high-horsepower pickups and more toward those capable of blasting across all kinds of surfaces at high speed. Regardless, the Ford F-150 SVT Lightning remains a popular model among enthusiasts, and this 2001 model is certainly a nice example of it.
This 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just over 2,000 miles, which is a rather low figure for a vehicle of this vintage – and it also means that it’s in stellar condition, too. Just one of 6,381 built in that particular model year, the Lightning was purchased new by the seller’s father and now heads to auction with flawless Silver Clearcoat Metallic paint, and it’s in bone stock condition, to boot – making it quite collectible by anyone’s standards.
The same is true of the interior, which features a like-new Medium Graphite cloth and Ebony leather split bench seat, coupled with amenities such as a power-adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, cruise control, and the factory AM/FM/cassette stereo with a six-disc CD changer. Power comes from the supercharged Ford 5.4L Triton V8, which was factory-rated to generate 380 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential with 3.73 gears.
In spite of their popularity, one could make the argument that these second-generation Ford F-150 SVT Lightning pickups are still a good value, if one can find the right example, at least. Higher-mile pickups are going for big bucks these days – as we’ve seen recently with 17k-mile and 40k-mile examples – but that isn’t necessarily true of others.

bring back the F150 Lightning gasoline powered single cab pu....we don"t need 4 doors !!!!!!!!!!!!
The second-gen SVT Lightning’s are indeed special factory performers. I am the original owner of a 2002. It’s easy to make this already fast truck a beast. With a swap out of pulleys increasing the supercharger boost, a larger throttle body/plenum, MSD performance coil packs, a Cervini dual scoop hood feeding a K&N cold air intake, plus 3” pipes attached to Magna-flow mufflers and a SCT Diablo tune, mine dyno’d at 427 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque. That’s Shelby territory. It’s got 118k on her now and still going strong. Even modified with just those add-ons, these are very desirable pickups and will be very collectible.
