Electric vehicles are steadily becoming a common sight in Norway, thanks in part to the arrival of two all-electric Ford models. The Ford F-150 Lightning made landfall in the country early last year, followed by the Ford Explorer EV just six months later. In fact, Norway is on track to become the first country to fully adopt EVs, and now, a prominent construction and infrastructure company has acquired a fleet of the F-150 Lightning, underscoring the country’s appreciation of electrification.
Mesta recently acquired 35 examples of the Ford F-150 Lightning. While these vehicles aren’t the first all-electric models to join the company’s fleet, they do represent its first collection of battery powered pickups, helping Mesta to achieve its goal of improved sustainability and emissions reductions. The company wants to become carbon-neutral in the future, and its new fleet of F-150 Lightning pickups represent its next step toward that outcome.
The Ford F-150 Lightning may not have been the most affordable choice of electric vehicles in terms of up-front costs, Mesta is confident that they will prove to be the more cost-effective option in the long run.
“It is cheaper for us to choose an electric pickup like the F-150 Lightning, despite the higher purchase price. The operating costs are significantly lower,” said Steffen Olerud, product manager for cars at Mesta. “Overall, this is the car on the market that best meets our needs.”
Mesta plans to add more Ford F-150 Lightning units to its stable in the future, too. Further acquisitions will largely depend on future contracts and projected need to bolster the fleet.
“We are incredibly proud to deliver an initial 35 electric F-150 Lightnings to Mesta,” said CEO of Ford Motor Norway, Per Gunnar Berg. “When one of Norway’s largest and most sustainable contractors concludes that this is the first choice for a zero-emission pickup with high towing capacity, raw accessibility, very good space and a safe and comfortable working environment, it says a lot. This is an unbeatable environmentally friendly and uncompromising workhorse.”
