Counterculture from the 1980s produced some interesting product lines, like the weirdly cute but grotesque Garbage Pail Kids, also affectionately called “GPK.” Though they were originally released 40 years ago, the GPK gang still captures the affection of kids – and kids at heart – and one of the latest additions to the family is, interestingly, a collectible diecast 1967 Ford Mustang.
Greenlight Collectibles added the 1967 Ford Mustang coupe to its collection of odd little vehicles inspired by GPK. The Mustang itself is called “Skii’n Ian’s Mustang,” and it features an icy theme with blue metallic flake paint and matching blue-wall tires. It’s fitted with chrome wheels, too, picking up the bright chrome treatment applied to its trunk ski rack and matching skis.
The 1967 Ford Mustang diecast is a lot more palatable than the character that inspired it. Skii’n Ian’s original trading card shows him in a downhill skiing scene, but he unfortunately ended up in the path of a tree and was literally split down the middle by the obstacle. At least the diecast Mustang keeps its scheme clean and gore-free.
The 1967 Mustang is just one of several new additions to the GPK line of diecasts offered up by Greenlight in 1:64 scale. There’s also a 1983 GMC Vandura, a Dodge Power Wagon wrecker, a Buick Roadmaster convertible, a Jeep YJ, and a C8 Corvette up for grabs. At the time of this writing, the toymaker hasn’t revealed pricing for the collection.
It’s also not the first time a Blue Oval vehicle has received the GPK treatment. A 1969 Ford Bronco “Super Snotty” diecast was introduced late last year, featuring a nuclear waste-green paint scheme. For collectors who aren’t into the nasty GPK scene, the company released a 1:18 scale 1996 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer limited edition model as part of its Artisan Collection, and followed that up by launching diecast versions of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, as well as the retro-themed Ford Bronco Heritage and Ford Bronco Sport Heritage.
