Deliveries of the all-new 2025 Ford Mustang GTD just began in late June, shortly after the most track-capable pony car ever became one of very few road-going production cars to lap Germany’s Nurburgring in less than seven minutes. Given the fact that one must be approved to buy a GTD – coupled with its $300k+ asking price – most folks that are purchasing one are wealthy at the very least, and in many cases, celebrities of some sort. That list includes comedian and mega car guy Jay Leno, unsurprisingly.

Leno – who was also one of the first folks to take delivery of a second-generation Ford GT when it launched – didn’t just collect his 2025 Ford Mustang GTD off a transport truck, however. Rather, Ford CEO Jim Farley was there to mark the occasion, which makes sense given the fact that Leno’s YouTube channel has nearly four million subscribers, a sort of a post-retirement job for the long-time late night talk show host.

Given the fact that Leno has owned and driven seemingly every car that has ever existed, we were most interested in learning what he thinks about the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD. Unsurprisingly, he went with a driver’s spec, opting for the Performance Pack, and his car bears serial number 12 – just like his pair of GTs. Interestingly, even with its more hardcore spec, Leno notes right off the bat that his GTD “is way more civilized than I thought it would be.”

“You could drive this everyday,” Leno adds, but with 815 horsepower on tap, it can also get one in trouble pretty quick, too. “If you’re finding the limits of this thing on the public road, you’re going to jail,” he notes. Regardless, in spite of its rather hefty curb weight, Leno comes away impressed with how the GTD handles, too. “In a complimentary way, it’s like a Miata. It feels extremely light and nimble on its feet,” he says, coming away mightily impressed with Ford’s efforts to build the most capable Mustang to ever exist.
