Pretty much anyone who has ever ventured off-road in their vehicle – or at least, traveled on a muddy, snowy, or icy road of some sort – has likely dealt with one big problem, and that’s getting stuck. This can be a frustrating and even potentially dangerous sort of situation, to say the least, though there are quite a few ways to get a vehicle unstuck and back on track. Off-roaders tend to carry things like traction boards with them, not to mention use winches, shovels, or tow straps in the event that they get stuck. However, this Ford Ranger driver discovered a pretty creative way to accomplish the same task.
In this video posted on Facebook recently, we can see that the Ford Ranger owner has gotten himself stuck in some pretty deep mud, leaving the regular cab, two-wheel drive pickup in a precarious situation. The wheels just keep spinning, but the compact pickup isn’t going anywhere with its tires buried deep in that sticky stuff. Luckily (or, more likely, as a result of a planned exercise), the owner has some ratchet straps and a pair of wooden boards sitting in the bed of the Ranger, which is all he needs to get unstuck.
As we see here, the Ford Ranger driver simply uses the ratchet straps to secure the 2x4s to the rear tires of his pickup, with the straps running through the holes in the wheels. Once that’s complete, this creative and cheap method works like a charm – as soon as the wood hits the, er, road, the Ranger is instantly free and moving under its own power again.
Of course, it would be just as easy to carry around some traction boards when one is heading off the beaten path, but in this case, it’s also nice to know that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to accomplish the same task.
