In van hungry parts of the world like Europe and the UK, commercial buyers have long gravitated toward those types of vehicles – with the Ford Transit family leading the way in that regard. However, the Ford Ranger has also proven to be a popular entity for those seeking something with a bed in the back, and in the UK, it has remained the best-selling pickup for some time now. That was true for the entirety of 2024, and the Ford Ranger topped the UK sales charts in January, February, March, and April to kick off 2025 – a trend that ended in June, however.
According to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Ranger wasn’t the best-selling pickup in the UK in June 2025, as it racked up a mere 961 sales last month. That ranked it behind its chief rival, the Toyota Hilux, and its 1,163 sales, in fact. However, over the first six months of the year, the Ford Ranger accumulated 10,327 sales in the UK, making it the top selling pickup in that country over that same time frame – compared to just 5,302 sales for the Hilux.
As for overall light-duty commercial vehicle sales, the Ford Ranger ranked ninth in June 2025, as well as third in H1, behind only the Transit Custom and Transit. The UK LCV market posted a sales decrease of 12.1 percent to 156,048 units across the first half of the year, as June marked the seventh consecutive month of drops – this time, by 14.8 percent, which is certainly a cause for concern looking ahead to the second-half of 2025.
“Half a year of declining demand for new vans reflects a difficult economic climate and weak business confidence and the fact that this downturn comes just as industry invests heavily to expand its zero emission LCV offering is particularly concerning,” said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes. “Decarbonization remains a shared ambition but with the EV market more than a third below this year’s target, bold measures are needed to drive demand. Accelerated CV infrastructure rollout, quicker grid connections and streamlined planning are now critical.”
