With Lobo Maverick And F-150, Ranger Lobo Seems Logical

The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo debuted last year as a brand new take on an older idea – pickups that are focused more on on-road performance versus off-road, which is something that used to be all the rage. The Blue Oval followed up that debut with another take – the 2025 Ford F-150 Lobo, which follows much of the same sort of formula as it pertains to offering customers sporty looks combined with a lower ride height and pavement-focused rolling stock. Thus, that begs the question – will a Ford Ranger Lobo be next in line?

Last month, Ford Authority posted a poll asking our readers if they’d be interested in seeing a Ford Ranger Lobo come to fruition, and the results were rather lopsided – 76 percent said “absolutely!” while 26 percent responded with “not at all.” At least in this smaller scope, that makes the Ranger Lobo a rather logical next step in Ford’s mission to offer an array of street trucks, which could be poised to make a much broader comeback, depending on how well the Maverick and F-150 Lobo ultimately sell.

A Ranger that rides lower to the ground and is fitted with unique bodywork such as ground effects, along with blacked-out accents would certainly be interesting. However, such a machine would also be quite unique in today’s market, as a Ranger Lobo would face essentially zero direct competition if and when it does become a reality. GM doesn’t offer an RST trim for the Colorado, after all, which is also the case with the GMC Canyon. The Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier aren’t available in any sort of street-focused guise either, nor is the Jeep Gladiator.

The formula is certainly in place, and the groundwork is laid for a possible Ford Ranger Lobo. In fact, The Blue Oval has offered something similar – the Ranger MS-RT – in other parts of the world for years now, which is pictured here. Along with a lowered suspension and unique bodywork, Ford could also give the theoretical Ranger Lobo the twin-turbocharged 2.7L V6 EcoBoost as standard or as an option, making it a potentially potent mid-size street machine.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. While I’m not at all opposed to a Lobo performance version of the Ranger, the Tremor variant should be the first priority from Ford. There is a huge gap in the regular lineup between the FX-4 and Raptor. The Tacoma has the TRD Off-road and Chevy has the Trail Boss…. Ford has nothing in the space under the halo trucks to compete. So maybe a more off-road variant (Tremor) to do “truck things” first.

  3. I’d like to see this (not necessarily the black Lobo) but with the premium luxury packages and seats of the Raptor. So a more outside road sporty version of Raptor. Like what Shelby is doing with the Super Snake and the F150 SuperCrew versions. Both Shelby “Super Snakes” but one is offroad and one is street.
