Edmunds Picks Ford Bronco Sport Over All-New Chevy Equinox

In recent months, we’ve seen more than one Blue Oval model come out on top in a comparison test conducted by Edmunds – including the Ford F-150, which beat out the Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra, and Ram 1500. Not too long ago, we had a little brand-on-brand crime as that same organization chose the F-150 PowerBoost hybrid over the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning, too. Now, the Ford Bronco Sport has taken down one of its rivals, the Chevy Equinox, in another comparison test.

This new comparison test once again comes to us from Edmunds, and it’s an interesting one given the fact that the Ford Bronco Sport just received its first mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year, while the ICE Chevy Equinox is all-new for the same model year. Ultimately, the Ford Bronco Sport edged out the Equinox with an overall score of 6.6 out of 10 versus 6.0, with a few factors making a big difference here.

Edmunds is a fan of the Equinox’s tech, as every model comes standard with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen, plus Google integration – though a data subscription is needed to take advantage of all of that capability. On the downside, it notes that the Chevy crossover is quite slow, and “feels sluggish,” as its naturally-aspirated four-cylinder churns out 175 horsepower – good for a 0-60 time of 8.7 seconds. It has more space than the Bronco Sport, but its suspension is “somehow too soft and too firm at the same time.”

As for the Ford Bronco Sport, it offers up more in terms of off-road capability, as one would expect, but it lacks in terms of interior space, and can be quite pricey when one starts adding options. Regardless, Edmunds appreciated that the Bronco Sport at least tries to stand out from the competition in many ways. “In a world where the other SUVs have gone toward more road-oriented styling and features, it lets the Bronco Sport stand apart – in a good way,” it concluded. “Even though this was an imperfect vehicle, we had some affection for it because being different can be refreshing.”

  • ... no way this can be true. I'm a ford guy all the way.
Bought the fullsize Bronco for 25 this past May. Drove a "sport"
as a loaner. No way would I buy the sport. I love the design
    on the Equinox and Blazer.

    • Right, and I got chewed out by the author for saying that. Bronco Sport is small compared to the Equinox (just park next to one). 2 different size classes. Edmund's was hot back in the 70s, 80s and 90s but I wouldn't trust much of what they say these days. Not by a long shot.

  • Love the Bronco. Not What I Need.
Absolutely Love The 2025 Shadow Black
    Bronco Sport Outer Banks.
Traded Up from The 2023 Area 51
    Bronco Sport OB.

If I could change one thing it would be
    The option for bigger wheels.
18 inch wheels come standard on Outer Banks.
I Would Like 20 inch At Least.

    Truth. 🗝️
