Deliveries of the all-new Ford Ranger PHEV began in places like Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and The Netherlands, a few months ago, giving customers in those markets the chance to buy the first-ever electrified version of the mid-size pickup. Unfortunately for those that covet such a thing in places like North America, it doesn't seem likely that the Ranger PHEV will be offered there, particularly since the newer model isn't exactly selling like hotcakes in Europe at the moment. However, it will be built and sold in South America, the automaker has announced.
In addition to the Silverton Assembly plant in South Africa, the Ford Ranger PHEV will also be produced at the Pacheco Assembly plant in Argentina starting in 2027, the automaker has announced. The Blue Oval will invest $170 million in that facility to accommodate this change, on top of the $700 million it already invested to prepare that facility for production of the current generation Ranger over the past few years.
"We are proud of our growth in Argentina and we are excited to bring this new technology to South America with the New Plug-in Hybrid Ranger, produced in our Pacheco Plant," Ford CEO Jim Farley said during a recent visit to the South American facility. "This is a sign of our deep commitment to this region and its people."
The Ford Ranger is celebrating 30 years in Argentina in 2025, but it just keeps growing in terms of popularity in that part of the world. The Ranger has doubled its market share in South America since the latest model debuted a few years ago, and Pacheco is on track to set a new record in terms of annual output, pegged at around 76,000 units, currently. Ford plans to increase that figure to 80,000 units in 2026, a boost supported by the addition of 300 new jobs.
