As Ford Authority reported back in 2020 and again last year, a plug-in Ford Ranger hybrid model has long been expected to join the mid-size pickup’s lineup at some point in the near future, though a precise timeline has proven elusive. Since then, the all-new, next-generation Ford Ranger has debuted and launched in numerous countries around the world, with many more – including North America in 2023 for the 2024 model year – to come. Now, Automotive News is reporting that this new Ford Ranger hybrid model – likely a plug-in hybrid, to be precise – is expected to join the lineup in 2025.

Given the fact that a Ranger PHEV has been rumored for years, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise, but it does provide us with a clear picture of when we can expect this electrified pickup to launch, at least. However, it may not be the only hybrid model in the Ranger lineup, as the Ranger Raptor may also get an electrified powertrain option at some point in the future, as Ford Authority reported back in April.

Aside from a hybrid model, the new Ranger is also expected to get an all-electric variant, too. Additionally, an extended wheelbase option appears to be in the cards after Ford Authority spies spotted a long-bed Ranger SuperCrew prototype testing in the U.S. back in June.

In the meantime, the next-gen Ranger recently launched in six additional countries after deliveries began this past spring, while FoMoCo is working on ramping up Ranger Raptor production to export it to 40 countries around the globe. Aside from Australia and parts of Asia and South America, order banks for the new Ranger Wildtrak and Limited trims just opened up in Europe earlier this month, too.

We’ll have more on the next-gen Ranger soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Ranger news and non-stop Ford news coverage.
