Ford Motor Company has filed to trademark “Mach 4” with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), Ford Authority has learned.

Filed on February 25th, 2025, under serial number 2382019, this application contain the goods and services description of “motor vehicles, namely gasoline and electric automobiles, pick-up trucks, sport utility vehicles and their structural parts.”

The Ford Authority Take

While The Blue Oval toyed around with the idea of creating a four-door Ford Mustang before the original pony car even launched, such a vehicle has yet to exist – unless we count the Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover, at least. However, rumors that Ford is working on a four-door Mustang have swirled for years, and most recently, intensified following a meeting with dealers last year, where the automaker reportedly showed those folks a concept for precisely that – and it was allegedly called the “Mach 4.”

Meanwhile, Ford CEO Jim Farley previously said that he “believes” the automaker could make a four-door Mustang, so long as it has “all the performance and attitude of the original.” Not too long after that, Executive Chairman Bill Ford refused to rule out the same sort of vehicle in another interview, and now, we’re watching as a flurry of trademark filings surface, all of which are for the Mach 4 moniker in a variety of countries around the globe.

That began in the U.S., as Ford Authority reported this past February, and shortly thereafter, we spotted trademark filings for Mach 4 in Australia and New Zealand, too. Reading the tea leaves, it certainly seems like we’re on the cusp of finally seeing a four-door Ford Mustang of some sort come to fruition, even after years of rumors have turned up nothing thus far. What we do know for sure is that Ford is cooking up something new, and it may very well finally be a more family-friendly and practical version of its iconic pony car.

  • If that's the Case, then just get rid of the Back Seat in the Fastback and Vert.

    Mach 2?

    And make a Coupe again!
