In the UK, the Ford Transit Custom has held the crown of best-selling van and light commercial vehicle (LCV) for a very long time, and that reign doesn’t appear likely to end anytime soon. Most recently, the Ford Transit Custom landed on top of the UK’s van/LCV sales charts in January, February, March, April, May, and June to kick off 2025, and that unsurprisingly didn’t change in July, either.
According to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Transit Custom once again ranked atop the UK van and light-duty commercial vehicle charts by recording 3,784 sales, which places it well ahead of the second-place Ford Transit and its 2,461 sales. From there, it’s a steep drop to the third place Mercedes-Benz Sprinter at 1,257 sales, while the Ford Transit Courier also ranked ninth after moving 693 units last month. Surprisingly, the Ford Ranger dropped out of the top 10 this time around after it typically ranks within that range, however.
Year to date, the Ford Transit Custom holds a commanding lead with 28,610 sales, compared to the second-place Transit at 16,347 units, while the Ranger is still holding on to the third spot with 11,008 sales. The news isn’t quite so good for the overall UK LCV market, as it experienced its eighth straight month of declines, posting a 5.1 percent drop this time around, coming in at 24,433 units. Among that group, only two segments didn’t post a decrease – 4x4s and 2.0-2.5 ton vans.
“Eight months of LCV market decline underlines the ongoing economic pressures facing businesses, yet the sector remains steadfast in its commitment to decarbonize,” said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes. “Manufacturers continue to invest in delivering a diverse range of zero emission vans to suit every use case, and it’s encouraging to see uptake growing – but to meet mandated targets, it must grow faster. Accelerating infrastructure rollout, streamlining planning processes and providing targeted support for fleet operators are essential to drive progress and keep the UK at the forefront of road transport decarbonization.”
Which could come in handy in certain cases.
A cool combination, yet also something of a strange one.
It stands to save a lot of money as a result.
Things appear to be in full swing.
Even though the XT5 was recently spared.
