We’ve certainly seen our fair share of towing fails over the years, largely due to inexperience or just downright dumb decisions. It was mere weeks ago that a video surfaced showing a Ford F-150 towing a rather large boat that ran directly into a parked car, which was rather bone-headed, to say the least. Now, we’re getting a look at another towing attempt involving a Mercury Montego sedan that went, well, about as wrong as it possibly could.
In this video recently posted by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in Washington state – and first spotted by The Autopian – we get a great breakdown of what might just be the most embarrassing towing incident of the year – so far, anyway. Police responded to a call at a local restaurant after the Mercury Montego crashed into that business and caused quite a lot of damage to its entrance, but the root cause of that damage isn’t what most would assume.
Rather, after reviewing video footage, police discovered that the someone tried to use a Honda Pilot to tow the Mercury Montego out of the parking lot. The owner of the sedan had parked it there the day before, and informed workers at the AutoZone in the same shopping center that he would have to come back and retrieve the vehicle later, as it had broken down. Sure enough, he returned the next day with the Pilot, a dolly, and a tow strap, but that attempt failed multiple times.
Trouble is, the second time the strap broke, the Mercury Montego kept on rolling down the parking lot and smashed into the front of the restaurant. The driver wasn’t daunted, however – rather, they tried to tow it again, and once again, the tow strap broke, sending it back into the restaurant. Giving it one more go, our group winds up getting the sedan stuck along a curb/retention wall, at which point they simply flee the scene. Now, police are on the hunt for the Pilot and its driver/passenger, who will likely be charged with a hit and run when they’re inevitably caught.
Just how affordable remains to be seen.
Posting a big improvement in terms of scoring.
It isn't the first time, either.
The mid-size pickup has become a staple in that region.
An improvement from last year's test results.
The company is set to debut its next new model.
