Since its launch, the current-generation Ford Everest has proven to be a smash hit in places like Australia, where it’s second only to the Ford Ranger (with which it shares a lot of components) in terms of sales in The Blue Oval’s lineup. The Blue Oval previously admitted that this tremendous demand for the SUV caught it by surprise, and even today – some time after it launched – the Ford Everest remains incredibly popular. Meanwhile, many have openly wondered why Ford doesn’t bring the Everest to the U.S., and that list now includes a rather popular YouTuber.
That person is Doug DeMuro, who touched on the Ford Everest in a recent podcast. “Look at this! It’s based on the Ranger. This is a (Toyota) 4Runner. This is a 4Runner! Why don’t they do this? And I didn’t honestly…previous Everest models looked kind of BS and so I wasn’t that into it,” DeMuro said. “I didn’t realize until I saw it the one on the truck that new Everest models look like this. This is cool as hell! Why are you not selling this in the United States? What possible idiot reason have you come up with to not sell this in the United States?”
“The 4Runner is such a killer and it’s based on their midsize truck, the Tacoma. Well guess what? Ford has a midsize truck that they already sell here. And all they do, they put a rear on it and they sell it like a 4Runner. Why don’t they do this? It would be so competitive. I don’t get it. What is going on here?”
If nothing else, these comments are notable given the fact that DeMuro has influenced at least one Blue Oval product in the past. As Ford Authority previously reported, the development team behind the redesigned 2025 Lincoln Navigator used some of his videos to help justify the SUV’s new split tailgate feature implemented into production, in fact. DeMuro also got a bit of a shoutout from Ford CEO Jim Farley himself after making a video backing the automaker’s decision to kill off sedans as well.

Toyota prints money with the 4Runner, which sells alongside their Highlander.
That is the Everest and Explorer for Ford. Many buyers like myself want a towing and offroad capable machine and let’s be real, the Explorer is a “sports” SUV not an “offroad” SUV.
Alas, I’ll have bought a Ranger before Ford ever gets its head out of its tailpipe.
I miss my 05′ Explorer with a V8 and 4L. By the time she died, it was impossible to find a good condition replacement and the new ones had morphed into urban dwellers. An Everest would be a tempting purchase.
They didn’t bring it here because it would’ve overlapped the Edge, but now…it’s not “exciting” enough for Jim.
Call it Mustang GTT. That will get Jimbo’s attention. We don’t have enough Mustang variants as it is.
I really love their version called the “WILD TRACK” in the EVEREST Family. If you go onto YouTube you can find it easily. Along with some really beautiful Japanese women too.
Gee, buyers want a truck-based, off-road capable SUV… Like, er, the best-selling, highly acclaimed ORIGINAL Ford Explorer (before they turned it into an emasculated, glorified unibody station wagon…) 🤦🏼♂️
I would buy an Everest immediately. It is the right size with a great look. I am hoping it is brought to the United States. It would be a home run. Ford should maybe think of marketing surveys to see if the demand is as strong as it appears.
This is obviously a great idea… as the Explorer is little more than a commodity product.
If massaged properly it could even be branded as a 3rd Bronco product.
Bronco Sport
Bronco
Bronco III / Everest / Everglade / MAX / Edge (lol) / Duster / Dune / Outrage / K2…etc.
Since Ford no longer makes the Edge, which my wife loves, we would be very interested in the Everest. Ford, please bring this to the US!!!
Ford Everest, takes the place of the Ford Escape? Why not, let’s go Mr. Farley, it’s time to bring this Australian Out-Backer to America. Think of the potential sales, you know it’s a good idea, don’t put off your decision, go for it or take a walk-a-bout.
It’s not selling in the USA because the same old “not invented here” syndrome is alive and well at Ford HQ. The same reason the australian Falcon and Territory were never sold in the US. And it was always because the yanks didn’t create it that they didn’t want it. And also to protect inferior american made vehicles. The Ranger is the only product that was developed somewhere else that they do make in the usa, and they knobble it to protect F series.
I’m afraid Not Invented Here (NIH) is the Detroit disease. GM finally felt obligated to sell a few Holdens as Pontiacs and Chevys before shutting down the operation down under.
Just another Ford product that will be recalled.
Since the demise of the EDGE, not sure there is a comfortable 5 passenger mid size truck in the portfolio. Many people do not need the extra seat in the back of the Explorer. The Everest would be a perfect fit. I would trade my 23′ Explorer for one if Ford made it.
Only the base model is available as a 5 seater. The rest are 7 seats.
solid rear axel, which V6 can we get a true 4 runner competitor, give us more off road capability 2 rows , not. 3 row luxury family school bus mommy mobile like the explorer timberline was , new explorer tremor more luxury than a off roader overland adventure wagon
