The concept of wireless charging for electric vehicles is nothing new, as several companies have been working on that type of technology for years now. That includes Ford, which has filed a few patents for wireless charging systems in recent years, while a company called WiTricity equipped a Ford Mustang Mach-E with a prototype of its Halo wireless charging system back in 2022. Now, Porsche has debuted its own wireless charging system, and it’s actually going to be available to use next year, too.
Porsche just unveiled its new inductive charging system at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany, and announced that the forthcoming, yet to be fully unveiled 2026 Cayenne EV will also be capable of using it, too. This means that Cayenne EV owners will be able to simply park on top of what is essentially a large, black, wireless charging pad rather than having to plug in a cable to charge their electric SUVs – just like how many charge their smartphones these days.
This type of wireless charging system is pretty simple, as it establishes a magnetic field between the charging pad and the vehicle, after which alternating currents pass from one to the other over the air. Porsche’s system uses a floor plate that’s air-cooled, coupled with a vehicle plate that uses liquid cooling. Since the vehicle’s plate is integrated into its structure, such technology can’t be retrofitted to older EV models, however.
As for the 2026 Cayenne EV, the wireless charging system must be spec’d as an option when one purchases the SUV, as otherwise, the necessary wiring won’t be installed from the factory. The plate and the wiring weigh a combined 110 pounds, offering up maximum charging power of 11 kW, and the Cayenne EV even features what Porsche calls “Park Assist” mode, in which the vehicle ensures that one parks perfectly on top of the pad. It’s unclear how much all of this will cost, but the wireless charing system will launch in Europe first in 2026, followed by other markets including the U.S. at a later date.
The perfect vehicle to embody "horsepower."
The original owner's wife wasn't a fan, so it sat for decades.
Closing the week at $11.74 per share.
Still offers the same equipment, though.
At least both drivers seemed aware of the situation and could avoid it.

I hope it works better than smartphone wireless chargers. At best, those just maintain current charge with only a tiny increase. If you are using the phone while charging, like for navigation or a handsfree call (or both), it can warm enough to trigger a thermal shutdown. With the hardware installed, the Cayenne EV should tip the scales at over 6,000 lbs! Dr Eng. Porsche must be turning over in his grave.
LOTS of homes burning to a crisp with this.
I'm waiting for wireless charging built into the pavement on major roads. The further you drive, the more you charge. That would end range anxiety and long distance travel would be possible. Probably won't happen in my lifetime though.
What are the charging losses, since it has coolers it must be less efficient
