The Ford U.S. Heritage Fleet was just unveiled earlier this year, and contains quite a few historically significant vehicles – which have thus far been on display for both Blue Oval employees and fans to check out at more than one event. That fleet figures to expand, grow, and change in the coming years, as has historically been the case in other parts of the world, too. In fact, the automaker will soon be auctioning off 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition number three, and the proceeds from that sale will go directly to the U.S. Heritage Fleet.
That interesting piece of news comes to us from Ted Ryan, Ford’s head archivist, who revealed that 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the third Ford GT Heritage Edition ever produced will indeed go right back to the collection it’s coming from – one that also contains a foam Ford GT prototype model. It has lived with Ford since new, too, originally used for marketing and media purposes, but now, this special model is set to be sold at Barrett-Jackson’s Fall Scottsdale auction later this month.
This special 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition has 8,435 miles showing on the odometer, and it’s finished in the truly iconic Gulf Oil livery. It comes with a certificate of authenticity, plus the original “build book” outlining its assembly process from start to finish, which is a nifty touch. It’s the third such model produced – and the earliest Heritage Edition ever to be sold to the public.
Power for this 2006 Ford GT comes from the supercharged 5.4L V8, which was factory rated to produce 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, which flows to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Now, this particular machine will serve a very different purpose – helping to restore and maintain other models in the Ford U.S. Heritage Fleet.
Records were once again broken, for the second straight quarter.
The first batch of many hybrids set to join that fleet.
One way to beef up the pickup's handling performance.
It will be built in a different plant than originally thought, however.
There's one, in particular, that should be avoided.
The kit comes with everything one needs to make the upgrade.
