Forget all about the track-ready Shelby GT350 Mustang model; something even more potent looks to be on the way.
This week, spy photographers managed to capture a camouflage-clad S550 ‘Stang around Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan campus, and our best guess is that the car was none other than a prototype for the next Shelby GT500. You can see the gallery of images on the Autoblog website.
Of course, a new Shelby GT500 Mustang has yet to be confirmed, so we have little to go on beside a hunch. However, the spied car is sporting a massive rear wing and possibly a more aggressive front fascia design (although it’s obscured by camouflage). What’s more, the rear wheels on this prototype look to be the same carbon-fiber units as on the hot Shelby GT350R model. The brake calipers wear the Brembo name, and the rotors are of the cross-drilled variety.
Interestingly, Autoblog reports that their spy photographers managed to spot a sticker on the vehicle which read: “TT-0081.” The site says that the same “TT” prefix was found on prototypes for the new Ford F-150 Raptor, and one’s first impulse might be to assume that the letters stand for “Twin-Turbo.”
