Ford Maverick Raptor Rendered As Beefy Off-Road Pickup

With the Ford Maverick‘s much anticipated rebirth as a compact unibody pickup for the 2022 model year, it’s a good bet that we’ll see an off-road variant at some point in the future. In fact, Ford Authority recently reported that a rugged Maverick is being planned. Given the success of the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor, we couldn’t help but wonder what a Maverick Raptor would look like.

Let’s get one thing out of the way before we go on: as of this writing, a Maverick model with that particular name is not in the works at FoMoCo as far as we know. That said, it’s fun to imagine some of the Raptor design details applied to the new truck, so we drew it up.

From a styling standpoint, one of the most prominent, and often imitated, visuals on the Raptor is the bold FORD lettering across the grille, which takes the place of The Blue Oval badge. In that spirit, we made sure to include that detail in our hypothetical Maverick Raptor rendering, complemented by a high-clearance front fascia treatment that integrates a prominent and functional skid plate underneath.

A set of fog lamps and relocated side markers round out the front end, leading to the side of the truck and rugged black plastic fenders, as opposed to the body-colored panels on the standard Ford Maverick.

Another key element in the Raptor formula that we integrated into our rendering is a massive wheel and tire package, made possible by increased ground clearance from taller and more robust off-road suspension. And a Maverick Raptor would almost certainly include special graphics, so we applied some of those to the bed sides of our theoretical truck as well. Below the tailgate, a rear bumper with improved ground clearance helps improve the approach and departure angles needed for serious off-roading.

We dream of our hypothetical Maverick Raptor being powered by the very capable Ford 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine. In the Ford Mustang EcoBoost, the boosted four-pot makes a very healthy 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. That’s a notable improvement over the 250 horses and 277 pound-feet of twist made by the Ford 2.0L EcoBoost I-4, which will serve as the range-topping engine in the current Maverick lineup. A carefully-tuned exhaust system could help the puppy sound mean in the process.

Ford’s 8-speed automatic transmission would do shifting duty, sending power to the ground via a high-performance all-wheel-drive system with various drive and terrain modes.

  • I'm sure this will appeal to typical stupid American consumers who dearly love their oversized, inefficient, ill-handling vehicles.

    • The possibilities are endless there’s something for everyone for the baby Sport Trac look alike

    • America, love it or leave it! People have the freedom to buy whatever they can afford. Sounds like you live in Russia,or was once a Soviet operative. People are born free to do as they please as long as it is within the law. Your inflammatory comment is highly out of line and offensive to say the least. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything they don’t like, the choice is theirs to make. Who the heck are you to tell or dictate what people should or shouldn’t buy? That is the beauty of America, the right to make your own choice. If the contents on this blog is a bother to you, why are you here in the first place? This blog has its audience and obviously you are not part of it. I would tell you where to go but why ruin this wonderful blog for attention seeking individuals. Get a life! American and proud of it!

    • Wow! talk about hate speech. try to desist from putting people in boxes and be friendly. The American mind has made most of the meaningful inventions of the last 100 years so clearly not stupid. A Maverick is a compact truck so clearly not oversized. at 30 MPG clearly not inefficient nor ill handling. Life will be happier if you stop spewing hate and learn to respect and accept people.

    • Careful, you may be indulging yourself in hate speech! Americans are great, those, such as joe and hunter may want to make us into a commie style country, but those of us that are not woke, will reject it. Hope you stay in Venezuela!

    • I think we fought a revolution or something to get away from insufferable people like Mark.
I can just picture him sitting there drinking his soy latte and staring at his emasculated hatchback parked outside the stuffy café bistro! 😆

  • Why can’t we have both. Slightly more rugged look with more ground clearance and graphics package, and keep hybrid engine with front wheel drive?

  • That's a nice-looking rendering. Being STUPID is soooo much fun! It's called FREEDOM - and that's why we live in and love AMERICA!

      • The majority of customers out there are looking for a four-door model. Regular and half cabs/double cabs are going the way of most other two-door vehicles - lower and lower demand is seeing the elimination of these models.

  • Since Ford is offering a Maverick Hybrid base for under $20K, I think building a Raptor version of the Maverick would be excellent for those who don't want to spend as much for the F150 or Ranger Raptor. I would stick with the 2.0 to keep the price down, use a solid rear axle or work on beefing up the existing Bronco Sport locking diff.

    • By all means keep that 2.0! One of Ford's best engines, reliable, long life, powerful, gas and oil-and 100,000s of trouble free miles.....What???? I wonder if anyone actually reads about what is happening with that "powerplant".

      • Hear Hear! Hence the article above on the 1.5 L and the Escape. I wouldn’t touch one with a ten foot pole. Buyers beware.

  • Why tout an emasculated uni body car stamped out with a lidless trunk to resemble a Ranger mid size truck, when you haven't even brought the genuine article Ranger Raptor to the U.S shores yet?Everyone else gets a Ranger Raptor but the U.S. It's no wonder Ford stock shrunk 3% again this month.
Ford did the same with there Focus RS AWD for two decades..... Who ARE these people???
It looks like Ford engineers simply copied the Honda truck.

    • Shows how much you are following the news,Ford stock is taking a hit because of the chip supply issues. Ford current lineup is very attractive say for the Escape and EcoSport! There’s simply not enough chips to put in vehicles and that is causing supply shortage. Can’t sell what you don’t have,so sales are taking a hit and in return investors jitters, get it now? Secondly, this is rendering by fordauthority and NOT FORD!

      • Whhaat? You totally missed or purposely avoided my points. First, My comments are in no way related to chip shortages, but if you want to go "there" it's Ford"s OWN shortsighted failure to farm out chip manufacture to a foreign country which infringes on intellectual property an human rights, rather than investing in house or at least a U.S. based firm.
Secondly, the uni body Maverick Ranger is NOT a Ford authority rendering, it's a version of the original Ranger truck but in a unibody design, which I feel is a poor platform for a truck, and it simply resembles the Honda truck, produced many years before.
But primarily, Ford has DRAGGED ITS FEET in producing and releasing the Ranger Rapture IN the States. Here is even an example within this very publication over a year old dated last July... "Next-Gen Ranger Raptor To Use 2.7L EcoBoost V6 And Launch In The U.S". We are always the LAST to get these trick verions of models released elsewhere in the world markets, like my Focus RS example....and it's still not released...not til 23
.... did you vote for Kamala too?

  • To the American basher; I'm sure you don't realize that it is a small truck...
Also, what does "ill-handling" mean to you?
(A truck is not a sports car - neither was a Chevy Chevette)
The truck is actually going to appeal to a wide group of different personalities - some of which also hate the USA.

God bless the greatest county. The country so hated by the envious, and yet loved to millions of outsiders.

  • The render looks great. I think it would appeal to a fair number.

I do think though that Ford missed the mark on naming the current line up of light duty trucks, given the size / proportions. My thoughts: The F-150 should carry on as it's named, the current Ranger should be the F-100 and the Maverick should be the new Ranger.

    • IMHO, the Maverick should not even be associated with the Ranger truck, at al....or even a truck.

        • """""""It’s a vehicle with a bed. It’s a truck."""""""" Never traveled much have you? In commie countries, such as china, the three wheeled Truck is popular, they are a vehicle, they do have a bed, but I never considered them a Truck. Is this what America is coming to? If it has a bed- it is a Truck? This is unibody, mexican made, ford import, for all those people in the U.S. that know what a Truck is, this isn't that.

          • You should probably look up the definition of a truck.

Where it's made, what type of frame/suspension it has doesn't define that. The Maverick, Ridgeline etc. are all 100% trucks by definition.

You don't have to have a big, obnoxious coal rolling diesel to be considered a truck...

          • Maybe you should look up the definition of a Truck! It would be good to take you own advice, when discussing, Define.
"""""a large, heavy motor vehicle used for transporting goods, materials, or troops."""""
the maverick is hardly large, heavy-it is small, no frame (unibody) joke. Now add the ford four banger-ecoboom.

  • I believe a maverick raptor would be a great vehicle provided the price to be affordable to most people . I say build it they will buy ¡!!!
