Filed on December 23rd, 2021, these applications contain the goods and services description of “Land motor vehicles and parts and accessories therefor.”

Each of these filings refers to either an existing or past model within Ford’s global lineup. Sources have told Ford Authority that Ford CEO Jim Farley is a fan of using model names with built-in recognition, which is the reasoning behind the use of “Mustang” in the Ford Mustang Mach-E, “Lightning” in the Ford F-150 Lightning, “Bronco” in Ford Bronco Sport, and the Ford Maverick.

Older yet highly recognizable names are making a comeback at Ford, suffice to say, as we’ve seen from recent trademark filings for the Ford Excursion and Ford Thunderbird, two discontinued but popular models from The Blue Oval’s past.

It’s unclear if these trademark filings mean that Ford intends to bring back these model names from its past, but the fact that the automaker has trademarked each is interesting, nonetheless.

the eMach could have been a big electric Kuga, or Puma SUV..
but no.. call it a Mustang.. and destroy 57 years of 2 door heritage .. Brilliant..
I'm happy Ford kept the Mustang in production in the US. Financially it would have been better to keep the Fusion which sold in the neighborhood of 160,000 copies per year to the Mustang which sells in the neighborhood of 80,000 units yearly. We still have the Mustang because of the Mustang Mach E. It appears GM is going to follow Fords lead with a Camaro sedan and EV. Complain if and when Ford drops the Mustang coupe. At some point like Dodge. The V8 will end. Will it still be a Mustang without a V8 option? My guess the Mustang GT will offer a hybrid or EV. A Mustang Mach GT similar to the Mach E GT in performance.
