From a segment share standpoint, the Mustang Mach-E led with an 18 percent share, followed by the ID.4 with a 16 percent segment share, and the Bolt EUV with a 13 percent share. The Ioniq 5 posted a 13 percent share as well, while the Ioniq 6 held a seven percent share. The EV6 earned a six percent share, as did both the Bolt EV and Ariya. The Solterra posted a five percent share, followed by the bZ4X with a four percent share. The Leaf and EV9 each held a two percent share, while the Blazer EV earned a one percent share.
The Mustang Mach-E competes in the mainstream electric vehicles (EV) segment, in which we currently include all mainstream (non-luxury) BEVs including crossovers, hatchbacks, and sedans. As more EVs enter the market, there will enough similar vehicle types competing against each other to warrant a specific segment. At that time, we will break these out for more specific sales comparisons. Beyond the mainstream EV segment being discussed here, the remaining EV segment is the premium EV market that contains models from Tesla, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lucid, Cadillac, Jaguar and Genesis. Accordingly, we are not including Tesla models in the mainstream EVs sales analysis, since they are premium/luxury models.
Combined sales of the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 grew 32 percent for 160,600 deliveries.

It’s also worth noting that Hyundai and Kia offer EV models that also include variants with an internal combustion engine (ICE) and/or hybrid (HEV) and/or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. That includes the Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Ioniq (without a number), along with the Kia Niro. Consequently these models do not offer a direct comparison to the Mustang Mach-E. As a result, these particular Hyundai and Kia models are not longer included in our analysis. A related Hyundai model, the similarly named Ioniq 5, is all-electric, replacing the original Ioniq. While the Ioniq 5 is a crossover the similarly named Ioniq 6 is an all-electric sedan.
Overall, sales of mainstream EVs jumped 48 percent to 65,094 units during Q4 2023.
Ford Mustang Mach-E sales remained in the green this quarter. This shouldn’t be surprising since the Mustang Mach-E was among the top ten best selling EVs of 2023.
For Q4 2023 and going forward, we’ve dropped the two Tesla entries from our mainstream EVs sales analysis, both the Model Y and Model 3, for reasons noted above. However, we welcome two models to the list, namely the Kia EV9 and the Chevy Blazer EV, while adding a few other entries to more accurately reflect the nascent EV market.
For 2024, the first-ever Mustang Mach-E Rally debuts as an off-road-capable EV, looking the part with a unique front fascia, fog lights, a hatch-mounted rear wing, stripes, and a black-painted roof.
The new Rally offers up more power than even the range-topping Mach-E GT Performance Edition, boasting 480 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque versus 480/634 for the latter, from a pair of electric motors. The Rally is made for unpaved roads filled with dirt and loose gravel. MagneRide shocks with specially-tuned springs keeps the body in check, which rides on top of a 0.8-inch suspension lift, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin CrossClimate2 all-season tires are complemented by 15.8-inch front brake rotors featuring Brembo calipers. Special shielding protects both motors, while a unique RallySport drive mode helps take advantage of those tweaks.
Maximum range for the Rally should come in at around 250 miles from the crossover’s battery pack, which offers up 91.0 kWh of usable capacity.
Meanwhile, 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT debuts a new Bronze Appearance Package along with optional bronze wheels. However, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Premium gets a new standard roof to replace the now-optional panoramic fixed-glass roof, and the lineup drops the California Route 1 trim.
