The all-new Ford Tourneo Courier debuted for the European market back in May 2023, with production beginning that same October at the Ford Otosan Craiova Assembly plant in Romania. At that same time, the European voluntary car safety performance assessment program known as Euro NCAP conducted a round of crash testing on the new van and ultimately gave it three stars due to some concerns with rear seat passenger vulnerabilities in frontal impact testing. Now, however, the 2025 Ford Tourneo Courier has managed to best that score.

Euro NCAP just assigned the 2025 Ford Tourneo Courier a four-star rating after retesting for a simple reason – The Blue Oval updated the van’s rear seat restraint system in an effort to address the aforementioned concerns. Clearly, that update made a big difference, as the Tourneo Courier managed to improve its score this time around. Euro NCAP noted that the front passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test, and that was also the case with the driver and other passengers, save for some vulnerabilities pertaining to the driver’s chest.

The same is true of the side barrier test, as protection was good for all body parts and all occupants, and whiplash protection was also strong in rear-end crashes. In terms of pedestrian/cyclist protection on the outside, it was mostly good as well, though the windshield pillars did wind up causing some damage, and pelvis protection results were a bit mixed as well. There is no protection against doors in terms of them hitting cyclists when opened, but automatic emergency braking results were strong, regardless.

These improvements for the Ford Tourneo Courier help The Blue Oval inch a bit closer to achieving the best possible result of five stars, which is something that the relatively new Ford Explorer EV achieved in Euro NCAP testing last year. The Ford Transit Connect also received the prestigious Platinum safety award back in July 2024, which is the highest possible honor a model can receive, based on new, more stringent standards.
