As Ford Authority reported yesterday, Ford CEO Jim Farley made a rather interesting revelation during the automaker’s Q2 2025 earnings call with investors this week, as it pertains to a “major” EV announcement set to happen on August 11th. According to the executive, this forthcoming revelation will be so big, in fact, that he compared it to the iconic Ford Model T, a machine that brought affordable vehicles to the masses and forever changed the world of transportation in general. However, this isn’t the first time Farley has used that metaphor.

Rather, as Michael Martinez of Automotive News recently pointed out via a post on X, Farley also previously called the debut of the Ford F-150 Lightning “a Model T moment.” The all-electric pickup debuted for the 2022 model year amid a flurry of interest in such things, but as most are well aware, it hasn’t quite achieved the Model T’s benchmark for success, after that model racked up over 15 million sales between 1908 and 1927.

Amid a general slowdown in demand for all-electric vehicles, in general, the F-150 Lightning certainly isn’t alone in that regard, in all fairness. At the moment, Ford seems to recognize that it needs to come up with something truly revolutionary if it wants to compel shoppers to purchase one, as the second-generation F-150 Lightning was previously delayed to 2027.

That extra bit of time is being used by Ford to rely on the feedback it has received from F-150 Lightning customers to make a better product in that regard, with “features and experiences never seen on any Ford truck” – a list that includes bi-directional charging capability and advanced aero. This delay also intends to take advantage of falling battery prices as the market continues to take shape, which the automaker is capitalizing on by developing its own low-cost EV platform that figures to benefit the next-generation Ford F-150 EV.
