A number of law enforcement agencies around the world are testing out the Ford Mustang Mach-E as a potential police vehicle, while at least one department has already gone ahead and purchased two of them. However, Ford doesn’t make a police-specific Mach-E just yet, only a pilot vehicle with the Mach-E GT’s powertrain that recently passed Michigan State Police testing, even if it isn’t entirely optimized for that purpose. In addition to that, a Mach-E taxi cab was recently spotted in New York City, and now, the EV crossover is officially in use as an NYC taxi.
This news comes to us from Gravity Technologies, which is launching its first Ford Mustang Mach-E taxi adorned in the familiar yellow New York City taxi livery, just in time for the holidays, now that the crossover has received its final approval from Big Apple officials. This is the very first time the Mach-E has been employed as a taxi in an official capacity, and it will be joined by a Tesla Model Y in the coming days as well. The taxis will be charged overnight at Gravity’s own Midtown Manhattan charging space on West 42nd Street.

Finally after 25 years a Ford replacement for the crown vic taxi.
what cab company can afford 50,000 dollar cabs ,my god sounds totally stupid maybe a hybrid but total electric with that traffic be a lot of them down
The EXPLORER hybrid would be better one would think. But if the objective is 100% electric, this may be the only option .Perhaps the thought is to pay more for these and hope the fuel savings will pay back in a reasonable time. Then again, most people wanting a cab won't care either way about what type of engine/motor is propelling them.
E/V's do not us power in a traffic jam or at a red traffic light.

What took so long?
I'm not a fan of full electric vehicles because they just aren't practical where I live. However, the Mach E is not a fully autonomous vehicle and therefore cannot "go off the rails".
Just imagine if they still built a version of the CROWN VICTORIA. No doubt they would have had a hybrid or 100% electric model by now. I rode in a few ESCAPE cabs. Not nice.
