To date, Ford Authority has spotted a number of 2024 Ford Explorer prototypes out and about, including one wearing precisely zero camouflage, a high-performance ST, and a Platinum, giving us a good look at the refreshed crossover’s revised exterior and interior designs, which in some ways mimic the Chinese version. However, as Ford Authority reported late last month, this refresh will also bring forth the debut of a new trim – the 2024 Ford Explorer Active – which is somewhat similar to the also-new-for-2023 Ford Escape Active as well. Now, Ford Authority has spotted a 2024 Ford Explorer Active out driving around for the very first time.

The new Explorer Active seems likely to replace the XLT in the 2024 lineup – as was the case with the Escape – given the fact that this prototype is wearing the previous gen’s standard 18-inch wheels, while there’s also a last-gen Explorer XLT nearby, as we can see in these photos. This would mean that the Explorer Active would sit in the lineup directly above the Base trim and beneath everything else.

The 2023 Escape Active offers an array of upgrades over the Base model, including additional chrome trim, body-color door handles, 17-inch Shadow Silver-painted aluminum wheels, dual-zone climate control, and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, to name just a few.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2024 Ford Explorer will feature a revised front end design along with a redesigned liftgate that seemingly drew inspiration from its Chinese counterpart and the previous generation Explorer. Aside from a few updates to its exterior, the crossover is also expected to receive an all-new center stack with Sync 4 or the long-awaited Google infotainment system, while BlueCruise will likely become available along with the refresh, too.

We’ll have more on the 2024 Ford Explorer soon, so subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Explorer news, and for continuous Ford news updates.
