The Ford Maverick debuted for the 2022 model year, and is mere months into its first mid-cycle refresh that arrived for the 2025 model year. However, things tend to change quickly in the automotive world, and we’re already looking ahead to the Maverick’s very first redesign. A report from December 2022 indicated that the Ford Maverick would receive its first major overhaul in 2027, but now, a new report indicates that we may be waiting a bit longer to see that happen.
According to Automotive News, the Ford Maverick is now in line to get a redesign in 2029, which is a bit later than the aforementioned report, as well as AN’s report from this past October, which stated that the new compact pickup would arrive in 2028. Regardless of when the next-generation Maverick actually debuts, it should bring forth a host of notable updates, including new variants, though it’s unclear what those might consist of.
The 2025 Ford Maverick was already treated to some notable updates as part of its refresh, including a few exterior styling revisions, a newly standard 13.2-inch infotainment screen, and the debut of the all-new, street performance-focused Lobo model. Customers can choose from a variety of trim levels including XL, XLT, Lariat, and the Tremor, the latter of which was officially upgraded from an optional package to a trim for the new year.
Mechanically speaking, the 2025 Ford Maverick carried over largely unchanged, and continues to be available with a hybrid powertrain or the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost. However, as Ford Authority previously reported, the Maverick Hybrid can now be paired with all-wheel drive for the very first time. The 2025 Ford Maverick also gets the automaker’s 360-Degree Camera, as well as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist as an option – though it and Pro Trailer Backup Assist are included as standard features on the Lariat and Tremor.
