Here’s How The Ford Ranger Super Duty Compares To The U.S. Pickup

As Ford Authority reported back in June, Ford filed to trademarkRanger Super Duty” with the Intellectual Property Office Of The Philippines (IPOPHL) a while ago, which seemed to preview the arrival of a more capable version of the mid-size pickup. Turns out, that’s precisely what the Ford Ranger Super Duty will be, as the automaker teased that brand new variant just this morning, giving us a few impressive specs to go by. Thus, we thought it would be enlightening to compare those specs to the Ranger currently sold in the U.S.

Ford Ranger Super Duty vs U.S. Ford Ranger Specs
Australian Capability Rating Ford Ranger Super Duty U.S. Ford Ranger American Capability Rating
Max Towing 4,500kg (9,920 pounds) 7,500 pounds
Gross Vehicle Mass 4,500kg (9,920 pounds) 6,170 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
Gross Combined Mass 8000kg (17,637 pounds) 12,590 pounds Gross Combined Weight Rating

Though it’s difficult to perform an apples-to-apples comparison here given the differences in measurement and other uncertainties, the Ford Ranger Super Duty can tow considerably more than the U.S.-based Ranger with the turbocharged 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost in SuperCrew, four-wheel drive format – a whopping 9,920 pounds versus 7,500, in fact. The same is true of its 9,920 pounds of Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) compared to the American Ranger’s 6,170 pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), as well as its mammoth 17,637 pounds of Gross Combined Mass (GCM) compared to its U.S.-based counterpart’s 12,590 pound Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR).

At the moment, Ford isn’t sharing too much additional information regarding the new Ranger Super Duty, other than the fact that it will be built in Thailand and exported to other markets starting in 2026. The new pickup was designed with direct input from fleet customers and created by the IMG Product Development team in Australia, and most likely, will be offered in markets where those types of buyers need something a bit more capable and aren’t able to go to a dealer and purchase something like a Ford F-150 or Ford Super Duty, though that remains to be seen.
