Ford Fusion sales decreased in all markets tracked by Ford Authority, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, South Korea and Argentina during the second quarter of 2020. Note that the Fusion is sold as the Mondeo in some markets, including Europe, Argentina and South Korea.

Ford Fusion sales place the vehicle in third place in its competitive set from a total sales volume standpoint in the United States. The Ford midsize sedan was outsold by the Toyota Camry in first and Honda Accord in second. The Fusion outsold all other segment contenders, including the Nissan Altima, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata, Chevrolet Malibu, Subaru Legacy, Volkswagen Passat, Mazda6 and Chrysler 200.

From a segment share standpoint, the Fusion accounted for 13 percent segment share, significantly lower than the 25 and 21 percent commanded by the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, respectively. The Nissan Altima accounted for a 13 percent share. All other contenders garnered less than 10 percent share.
The midsize mainstream sedan segment contracted an average of 48 percent to 195,419 units in Q2 2020, meaning that the 55 percent drop in Ford Fusion sales was faster than the segment average.
Ford Fusion sales fared relatively well during Q2 2020. In fact, the supply-related issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic enabled the Fusion to outsell the Nissan Altima, which typically outsells the Ford offering.
However, the last Fusion rolled off the line at the Ford Hermosillo plant in Mexico on July 31st, 2020. As such, we expect Ford Fusion sales to drop significantly in the months ahead, as dealers sell out of remaining inventory.
The Fusion’s international-market twin, the Ford Mondeo, is also expected to be discontinued in the near future. Both models will be replaced with a crossover-like wagon, similar to the Subaru Outback, for sale across global markets. In fact, this next-gen Fusion will also replace the current Ford Edge, which is another Ford model that will be discontinued at the end of its lifecycle.

So after all that, a great looking car and 3rd place with stiff competition Ford is going to discontinue the Fusion. Are the Ford people really that dumb?
My point all along. Ford motto should be, "We emulate dumb and dumber."
I thought about this nonsense this morning when I parked my MKZ next to a Taurus, which had a Fusion next to it. No one wants cars now, except those of us who BUY them. Ford will regret surrendering that 13% on an established name.
No, They Are The DUMMEST both the Fusion and MKZ should have stayed on the market until a replacement sedan was ready
Fusion is my FAVORITE 4 Dr Sedan....(nicest looking Sedan on the road if equipped right)! Unfortunately, all that is basically available are the Hybrid Models (No Thanks No Hybrids for me, I work for a Toyota dealership and see enough problems with the hybrids) FORD Needs to produce more 6 Cylinder AWD Fusions and I bet the sales Numbers go up!
A complete nonsense and one of Ford 's biggest mistakes the discontinuation of this car.
Who is so dumb in Ford to think that an owner of a sedan like the Fusion will trade it for a boring SUV? Even if they sell like hot cakes, not everyone likes SUV´s or Crossovers. Ford needs to understand that or they will loose a lot of customers. That´s my case and after 25 years buying Ford porducts, I will buy from another brand but definitively there´s no human power that´s going to make me buy an SUV or a Crossover for the simple reason that I don´t like them.
Looked at the numbers and the Fusion comes in 3rd for the quarter and 4th for year to date totals. It is beating out redesigned models from the other makes. Maybe if Ford would have invested a few bucks into an updated Fusion maybe just maybe it would be selling more. It was an all around great vehicle with a varying selection of engine choices, front wheel drive, all wheel drive and a great hybrid choice. Ford is making a mistake by eliminating all there cars. Not everyone wants an SUV or crossover and the Fusion was a great choice.
agreed, plus the Fusion's design has aged amazingly well.
Dropping all sedans is the worst decision I have seen come out of Ford Motor Company. How many of their customers are unaware of this and will only find out when they go to Ford /Lincoln dealerships to replace their existing sedans. These customers will be gone FOREVER as they go to other manufacturers. I know if Lincoln doesn't have a sedan back in production when I replace my 2017 MKZ, I'm gone. Hackett was a disaster for FOMOCO and I hope Farley has major changes in direction planned.
I read the articles on this website every day and I'm tired of reading about new hot rod trucks. I have ZERO interest in owning a pickup truck. I see people driving big F150's around (never carrying anything but groceries) and have to laugh at how ridiculous this is. When this fad is over, Ford is left with nothing. The automobile customers will have left for other manufacturers.
Just as a side note, I also have zero interest in EV's and AV's. Ford, unless there are big changes, all I can say is "its been nice knowing you".
Our local Ford dealer also sells new Hyundai's and Vw's. They will just push the people looking for a sedan into one of those models, sad. Our neighbor went to buy a Fusion came home with a Hyundai. And that's how they get them hooked and when it comes time to trade or another vehicle they will most likely look at a Hyundai first. I don't the think the Ford Exe's thought this one out at all.
Ford and GM can walk and chew gum at the same time. They can make sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, CUVs. They don't have to cancel sedans. What if trends change? Will they just import the cars they make in China instead of making them in North America?
Who came up with this. I was always a fan of Ford. I love my Ford Fusion now when I want to up grade I'll guess have to buy from another company. I not looking for a SUV.
Now that the inexperienced unqualified furniture guy is leaving on Oct 1, maybe Farley will decide the keep the Fusion, I am not getting my hopes up
my Fusion 2016 broke the transmission for 2 times, one of the worst cars I have ever had, Ford never.
Unfortunately we sometimes purchase a vehicle that turns out to be filled with issues. I purchased a new 2015 Chrysler 200S that was in service more than my garage with transmission issues. Would I purchase another 200 is FCA had not discountinued it. No. Would I purchase another Chrysler model. Yes. I purchased a new Chrysler 300C. I'm very happy with my purchase. I should add that I also own a 2017 Edge Sport which has been a fantastic trouble free SUV. I was shopping for a Fusion Sport, but it was discountinued leading me back to Chrysler. Having owned my Chrysler 300C for almost a year. I'm glad I gave Chrysler a 2nd chance. When the time comes time to replace my Edge with another SUV. It will be another Ford
The Fusion has to go. I have had the transmission replaced, steer wheel sensor faults, and a few other problems. So many issues and NO Ford recall on the 2010 Fusion transmission problems. I do not want another FORD ever !!!!
Sometimes purchases don´t turn to be what expected. I´ve been buying sedans from Ford durning 25 years and have absolutely no complaint. All excelent. On the other hand, the worst experience I had was with a Toyota Camry who had an affaire with the mechanic since the car insited in having every kind of failure so it could be at the workshop. I guess that doesn´t make the Camry a bad car. If it were so, it´s sales figures wouldn´t be the ones that car has. What I really don´t approve and reprove from Ford, is the nonsens of cancelling all its sedans. Not everyone like SUV´s or its willing to buy one. That segment of the market will certainly migrate to other car companies in Ford´s own detriment.
