From a segment share standpoint, the Fusion accounted for 11 percent segment share, significantly lower than the 28 and 21 percent commanded by the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, respectively. The Nissan Altima accounted for an 11 percent share while the Chevy Malibu took 10 percent. All other contenders garnered less than 10 percent share.
The midsize mainstream sedan segment contracted an average of 22 percent to 264,978 units in Q3 2020, meaning that the 22 percent drop in Ford Fusion sales was in line with the segment average.
Ford Fusion sales fared relatively well during Q3 2020, with the vehicle outselling the Nissan Altima, which typically places above the Ford offering in the sales rankings.
Even so, the last Fusion rolled off the line at the Ford Hermosillo plant in Mexico on July 31st, 2020. As such, we expect Ford Fusion sales to drop significantly in the months and quarters ahead, as dealers sell out of remaining inventory.
The Fusion’s international-market twin, the Ford Mondeo, is also expected to be discontinued in the near future. Both models will be replaced with a crossover-like wagon, similar to the Subaru Outback, for sale across global markets. In fact, this next-gen Fusion will also replace the current Ford Edge, another Ford model that will be discontinued at the end of its lifecycle.
A pretty cool tailgating rig, we'd say.
It's unclear what those export markets will consist of.
It didn't top every category, but was the best all-around.
The term could also be used on merchandise.
The exec has done this for the past couple of years.
Resulting in a huge repair bill.

It´s unexplainable why Ford intends to cancel this product. It´s one of the best sedans in the market and sells pretty well. Even in Europe its twin, the Mondeo (specially the hybrid version) is one of the sales leaders in its segment and due to those sales, Ford is going to keep it one more year than in the USA. Not everyone likes SUV´s or Crossovers or is willing to buy one no matter what. Ford should keep at least one sedan in it´s lineup and this is an excellent product to keep. Replacing it for another boring SUV or Crossover will only produce that buyers looking for a sedan will migrate to other brands. Market is cyclic and those buyers may not come back to Ford when market trends change again as they will become familiar with other brands. Even when SUV´s and Crossovers sell like hot cakes today, they are boring and dull for a lot of people and the time will come when also most people look for a more appealing, exciting and still practical kind of vehicle to drive.
I do not understand the ford motor company. A few up grades and advertise as much as Toyota does I believe the fusion would out sell the not so exciting camry.
What a shame to discontinue the Fusion. #3 in the segment with no real promotion or advertising. Ford is going to turn it into a half-assed Subaru Outback? Are you kidding me? The clowns are running the circus at Ford.
The Ford Fusion Lincoln MKZ twins shouldn’t have been discontinued until new models was build to take there place Jim Farley is more focused on his own hobbies than what’s best for Ford Motor Company CUSTOMERS
I have had two Ford Fusions and I am currently driving the 325 HP Fusion Sport. It is far superior to most of the cars in its segment. The first Fusion I bought was a replacement for a cramped and harsh driving BMW 3 Series sedan. Both of my Fusions assembled in Mexico have been flawless. What a shame that Ford is discontinuing one of the best sedans it has ever produced.
I own a 2009 Ford Fusion V6. The leather seats still look good. Black leather with blue stitching and blue suede center. My car aged well. 260,000 miles. Tuxedo Black color. It was a special package.
Incredibles stupidity and short sightness on the part of Ford Management. They will be no sedan's built in the United States by GM or Ford in the next year they are leaving the entire market to the Japanese and Koreans which I'm sure these people will eat up. Whether or not you make money on the product you have to be competitive and keep them out of your bed room
Of all the years driving here I bought a Ford Fusion for my wife and she loves it. Best car out here and the maintenance is great that it came with. Great handling and what a great car. And Ford's discontinuing it? You guys stupid here?
I do not understand Ford's thinking. Having not one sedan available is going to force people to buy another brand. I, for one, have a Fusion whose lease is up in June. I already have an SUV, but like to drive a car, as well. If there are no Fusions left, I will be visiting Subuaru for a Legacy. Sorry, Ford, but you are making a big mistake.
There certainly is something wrong with Ford's cost structure if you need to sell $40,000+ pimped-out pickup trucks to be profitable. I currently drive a Lincoln MKZ 3.0, which I love. There is NOTHING in the FoMoCo lineup that interest me when it's time to replace this sedan. I really do not get excited about Asian cars so will probably be forced into a Mercedes, Audi, BMW pre-owned sedan. Very sad. How will this company (with no sedan customer base remaining) survive when the pickup truck/SUV fad ends?
