We've known for some time that the S650 generation of the venerable Ford Mustang was coming, and rumors surrounding it have run rampant in recent years. A new report from Automotive News contains several details about the 2023 Ford Mustang but notes that there aren't any major shakeups coming for the pony car, though The Blue Oval still has a few changes in store.
The S650 2023 Ford Mustang isn't expected to change dramatically from the current S550 generation, though AN did provide a couple of new details. For starters, the S650 "could" be available with all-wheel drive, as Ford Authority reported last spring. A mule spotted earlier this year also appeared to be testing such a setup as well, with several tell-tale clues that point to the presence of an all-wheel drive system.
A hybrid Mustang has also long been expected to join the pony car's lineup, but AN did provide us with timing for that model for the very first time, saying that the electrified version will launch in 2025. The 2023 Mustang will continue to be built at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant and is expected to have an eight-year life cycle, as Ford Authority reported last August, which would match the lifespan of the S550 generation.
The 2023 Mustang is expected to launch in 2022 for the 2023 model year. In terms of powertrains, major changes aren't expected from the current model, and as Ford Authority reported back in May, the good old-fashioned V8 engine won't be going away any time soon, either. However, it should also come as no surprise that an all-electric Mustang is expected at some point in the future - perhaps as soon as 2028 for the 2029 model year, as rumors have suggested.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on the appearance changing all that much from the current S550. More than likely, underpinnings and power train massaging.
Yes the Lee iacocca secretary car needs a nose job, maybe a butt lift too! Pedestrian hood laws are making it harder, but is still doable. The 2005 prototypes were awesome, Tbird style taillights, scoops, killer grills and hoods plus a glass roof !
A shelby convertible with a awesome surf board / roll bar would be cool to see.
Ford better not snooze to much or be Dodges dinner. They are hungry, very hungry. Ford is very lucky there is no Challenger convertible to challenge them with, tee hee. Chevy is still sratching their heads as what to do for Camero as sales have tanked but some good deals on new to be had , great lease deals.

It's not gonna have AWD. Neither of the purported AWD mules has such a setup present (both cars lack an axle nut behind their front wheels, a clear sign that there are no axles in front, and thus AWD present). I really wish people would stop peddling this theory.

- We already have an all-electric Mustang. It's called the Mustang Mach-E. Surely you've heard of it by at Ford Authority?
. . . unless of course this means that the people who make the Mach-E and/or the people who preeminently cover Ford products don't really consider the Mach-E an actual Mustang. Which would be simultaneously not surprising and very telling!
That was kind of my thought when I read that, LOL! I've been driving an Electric Mustang for over 3 months and 4,000 miles.
Another all electric Mustang is not a surprise at all. The popular small coupes have been popular for along time and will continue to be as electric. It will fit nicely next to the Mustang Mach e. My Mustang Mach e GT PE will be built next week.
I just want an aluminum block 7.3 Godzilla.
A turbo V6 hybrid would be a nice replacement for the Ecoboost 4. With about 350 hp and 40 mpg would be a nice option for folks that don't want the V8. Check the Mustang history guys, plenty of Mustangs made without a V8 and still a Mustang.
