Ford Transit sales enabled the vehicle to maintain its leading position in its segment by sales volume during Q4 2019, outselling other rivals including the Chevrolet Express (see Chevy Express sales), Ram ProMaster, Ford E-Series (see Ford E-Series sales), Nissan NV as well as the GMC Savana (see GMC Savana sales).
The Ford Transit accounted for 41 percent of the segment, the Express saw 19 percent, Ram ProMaster accounted for 17 percent, Ford E-Series saw 14 percent, Nissan NV got 5 percent, and the GMC Savana was at 4 percent.

It’s also worth noting that combined deliveries of the Ford Transit and E-Series totaled 49,722 units, accounting for 55 percent segment share during the quarter. That was significantly higher than the combined total of GM’s Chevy Express and GMC Savana, which saw cumulative deliveries of 19,788 units for a 23 percent segment share, significantly less than that of the Blue Oval.
The full-size mainstream van segment, which includes passenger, cargo, and cutaway/chassis cab models, expanded 1.35 percent to 88,964 units in Q4 2019. As such, Ford Transit sales during the quarter outperformed the segment average by a significant margin.
Ford Transit sales continued to blow away the competition during the fourth quarter, outselling all rivals and accounting for the dominant portion of the full-size van sales volume in the U.S.. The next best-selling offering, GM’s archaic Chevrolet Express, sold less than half as many units as the Transit.
Going forward, we expect the Transit to retain its substantial lead in terms of sales volume and market share, despite the Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana and Ram ProMaster being worthy competitors. Even so, Ford should have be able to continue dominating the segment well into the future, especially with the electrified Transit models on the horizon. Specifically, Ford has plans for an all-electric Transit as well as a Transit PHEV.

This is no wagon turned SHO, either.
Sales dropped 65 percent in Q2.
A simple but potentially useful idea.
Sales increased 6.6 percent to 1,492,905 units during the first eight months of 2025.
It was encouraged by Ford's future EV plans.
An ensuing standoff lasted a total of four hours.

The PHEV Transit is a success in Europe, but the electric Transit will be a bigger hit in the U.S. as many small transport companies, including the USPS , need a vehicle that can work all day at low speeds and short distances, even in heavy and slow city traffic, where most cargo vehicles lose thousands of dollars just burning gasoline. Ford has to speed up trials and offer the first electric Transits for 2021.
