Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E (see running Ford Mustang Mach-E sales) fell 20 percent to 10,178 deliveries in Q2 2025, placing third among a dozen entries in the mainstream EV utility vehicles segment when ranked by sales volume.

The Chevy Equinox EV (see running Chevy Equinox EV sales) led the charge with 17,420 deliveries, while the Ioniq 5 took second place with a 12 percent slip to 10,481 units, and the Mustang Mach-E followed in third. The Nissan Ariya placed fourth as sales grew 44 percent to 7,471 units. In the top five was the (GM-built) Honda Prologue with 6,756 deliveries.

The  Chevy Blazer EV (see running Chevy Blazer EV sales), the Equinox EV’s larger sibling, took sixth as sales were essentially flat, down just over one percent to 6,549 units. The Toyota bZ4X placed seventh as sales fell 52 percent to 3,639 units. The Subaru Solterra took eighth with a 20 percent downturn for 3,370 deliveries. The bZ4X and Solterra share the same platform, since they were jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru. The Kia EV6, which is the corporate sibling of the Ioniq 5, posted a 69 percent dive to 2,137 units, placing ninth, while the Volkswagen ID.4 took tenth with a 65 percent drop to 1,992 units. The Nissan Leaf, the oldest nameplate in this space, placed 11th with a 17 percent slide to 1,602 units. Finally, the discontinued Chevy Bolt family, comprised of the Chevy Bolt EV (see running  Chevy Bolt EV sales) the Chevy Bolt EUV (see running Chevy Bolt EUV sales), moved 33 units as remaining inventory continues to get sold off. Sales of both Bolt models are reflected on the Bolt EV line.

From a segment share standpoint, the Mustang Mach-E earned a 14 percent share, down five percentage points. The Equinox EV earned a 24 percent segment share, the Ioniq 5 a 15 percent share, and the Ariya a 10 percent segment. All remaining entries each held a share of nine percent or less.

Overall, sales of mainstream electric vehicle utilities expanded nine percent to 71,628 units during Q2 2025, meaning that Mach-E sales fell short of the segment average.

Ford’s crosstown rival, GM, is represented by three battery electric crossovers in this space, namely the discontinued Chevy Bolt EV duo, Chevy Equinox EV, and Chevy Blazer EV. Together they combined for 24,002 deliveries and a 33 percent segment share, keeping The General solidly in first place overall, accounting for a third of all sales in this nascent and growing space.

The Mustang Mach-E competes in the mainstream electric vehicles (EV) utility segment includes non-luxury crossovers and hatchbacks, but not large crossovers/SUVs, sedans, or pickup trucks. As more EVs enter the market, there will be enough similar vehicle types competing against each other to warrant even more specific segments. Beyond the mainstream EV segment being discussed here, the remaining marketplace represents premium battery electric models from the likes of Tesla, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lucid, Cadillac, Jaguar, Genesis, Polestar, and Fisker. Accordingly, we don’t include Tesla models in the mainstream EVs sales analysis here, since they are premium/luxury models.

Combined sales of the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 increased four percent for 134,923 deliveries.

It’s also worth noting that Hyundai and Kia offer EV models which include variants with an internal combustion engine (ICE) and/or hybrid (HEV) and/or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. That includes the Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Ioniq (without a number), along with the Kia Niro. Consequently these models do not offer a direct comparison to the Mustang Mach-E. As a result, these particular Hyundai and Kia models are not included in our analysis. A related Hyundai model, the similarly named Ioniq 5, is all-electric, replacing the original Ioniq. Notably, the Ioniq 5 is a crossover and the similarly named Ioniq 6 is an all-electric sedan.

The Ford Authority Take

Sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E were negatively impacted by newer competitors, relegating it to third placing in Q2 2025. To make matters worse, more rivals are on the way. For example, Ford’s crosstown-rival GM has two relatively new entries here, namely the Chevy Equinox EV and slightly larger Chevy Blazer EV, with the former now commanding the top spot in the mainstream electric vehicle utilities segment. Furthermore, sales of the Equinox EV and Blazer EV combined were more than double that of FoMoCo’s all-electric crossover.

Notably, The Blue Oval has said Mustang Mach-E production was not impacted by Trump tariffs, but they did push prices higher along with the “usual” mid-year pricing that will pass on some costs of the tariffs to customers. Worse still, Ford EVs will likely get even more expensive with the new Trump tariff just as the federal EV tax credit is set to end this September.

Looking ahead, a Ford Mustang Mach-E redesign is on track to debut in 2027. We think that it can’t come soon enough given that competition is heating up with their own updates and even new models. That includes an all-new 2026 Nissan Leaf, plus a refreshed 2026 Toyota bZ (formerly known as the bZ4X) along with an updated 2026 Subaru Solterra. The latter two companies just co-developed another pair of EVs, namely the upcoming 2026 Toyota C-HR and 2026 Subaru Uncharted as new Mustang Mach-E rivals. Additionally, both the updated 2025 Honda Prologue and refreshed Tesla Model Y dropped earlier this year. Finally, GM just teased first images of the upcoming Chevy Bolt EV redesign.

Till the new Mustang Mach-E arrives, significant updates introduced for the 2025 model year might not be enough to spur sales.

About Ford Mustang Mach-E

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E arrives with significant updates. That includes adding a new standard heat pump to optimize energy consumption, especially in colder weather conditions that sap range due to warming the cabin. However, that results in a smaller frunk due to housing the heat pump.

Additionally, the 2025 Mustang Mach-E Premium trim gains new Sport Appearance Package, enhancing the all-electric crossover inside and out. Also, here is everything you need to know regarding grilles and packages for 2025.

The 2025 model ditches the old center-mounted dial shifter, replacing it with a column shifter to gain more storage space in the console. It  also loses a couple of features previously included for the 2024 model year, namely the windshield wiper de-icer and MyKey feature.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Mustang Mach-E is the first to get the new BlueCruise 1.5 update, which adds an Automatic Lane Change feature.

Additionally, the 2025 Mach-E gains the new Ford Connectivity Package. It comes with a one-year complimentary trial upon activation, after which owners can subscribe to an annual plan or make a one-time purchase.

For 2025, the EV crossover drops three paint colors but gets three new paint options, and a new wheel option for the 2025 Mustang Mach-E Rally. Plus, it can now be upgraded with rear deck spoilers.

The 2025 Mustang Mach-E also adds new charging benefits and upgrades. That means both the GT and Rally get 50 additional pound-feet of torque, bringing that number up to 700 to motivate the all-electric crossover from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds.
