Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Ford Expedition sales jumped a segment-leading 44 percent to 31,298 units during Q2 2025, placing second in its segment when ranked by sales volume.

As has been the case for roughly two decades, Chevy’s Tahoe/Suburban duo placed first, growing 26 percent to 46,611 units comprised of:

  • 30,268 units of the regular-length Tahoe (see running Chevy Tahoe sales), up 21 percent, and
  • 16,343 deliveries of the extended-length Suburban (see running Chevy Suburban sales), up 39 percent.

The Chevys were followed by the Expedition in second, and the GMC Yukon family (comprised of the regular-length Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL) in third with a combined 24,866 sales, up 16 percent.

As a reminder, sales of the Expedition (see running Ford Expedition sales) include those of the regular-length Expedition (which rivals the Tahoe and Yukon) and the extended-length Expedition Max (that rivals the Suburban and Yukon XL).

The Jeep Wagoneer family, comprised of both the regular-length Wagoneer and longer Wagoneer L (but not including the more luxurious Grand Wagoneer) took a distant fourth with a 51 percent slide to 8,216 units. The Toyota Sequoia placed fifth with a three percent bump to 7,115 units, while the Nissan Armada finished last with a 12 percent downturn for 4,262 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Tahoe and Suburban sales are reported separately.

That means the nameplates from crosstown rival GM together accounted for 71,477 deliveries to claim a dominant 58 percent segment share, representing almost three-fifths of all deliveries in this space. That represents a seven percentage point increase on a year-over-year basis.

The Ford Authority Take

Ford Expedition sales took off during the second quarter of 2025 as the redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition completes its generational changeover. Ford’s biggest SUV posted the highest sales gain in the segment at a very healthy 44 percent, enabling it to take second place in the sales rankings to beat out the GMC Yukon family by 6K units.

These results are proof positive that The Blue Oval’s full-size SUV is back. In fact, the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator are partying like it’s 2004, quickly turning on dealer lots, selling for much more than the outgoing models, and enjoying their best result in decades.

The competition is fierce, with GM refreshing its full-sizers for the 2025 model year as the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban along with 2025 GMC Yukon and 2025 GMC Yukon XL, enabling GM to continue to outsell the Expedition. Even so, there are at least five things the GM SUVs can learn from the 2025 Ford Expedition, starting with the class-exclusive Split Gate.

About Ford Expedition

The redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition arrives with an all-new Tremor variant and class-exclusive Split Gate, plus revamped exterior styling, new features, and an overhauled interior. Available in regular and extended-length Max variants, trim levels get simplified to just four, including the new base-model Active, King Ranch, Platinum, and the first-ever Tremor variant, which replaces the Timberline and is not available in the Max variant. All trims are three-row.

For 2025, the entire lineup sports fresh styling both up front and in the rear, and a convenient new feature called Ford Split Gate, which functions much like a regular tailgate on a pickup. The top three-quarters of the liftgate raises upward, while the lower portion folds down, able to support up to 500 pounds. The Split Gate also features a seatback as part of the optional Cargo Tailgate Manager, and can even transform into a serving table.

Inside the cabin, the biggest change in the refreshed full-size SUV is the addition of a new 24-inch panoramic display that doubles as the instrument cluster and is paired with an 13.2-inch center screen running the fairly new Ford Digital Experience software.

Here are available 2025 Expedition paint colors after three were dropped, and wheels that are offered.

Also, we explain the Stealth Packages and tell you everything you need to know regarding grilles for the 2025 Expedition. The base-model Active trim offers just one package.

Available powertrains continue to include the twin turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, which produces 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, or 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet in the high-output version, which is standard in the Tremor and optional on Platinum.
