Despite the 8 percent decline in sales volume, the Ford Transit Connect remained the best-selling vehicle in its segment, outselling the Nissan NV200 and Ram ProMaster City combined. Only one Transit Connect rival, the Ram, saw a minuscule increase in sales volume, while the Ford and Nissan offerings saw sales fall.

From a segment share standpoint, the Transit Connect held a 56 percent share, a decrease of 2 percent from Q4 2019. The Nissan NV200, which will be discontinued in the medium-term future, held a 26 percent share, up from 25 percent, while the Ram-branded Fiat van held a 18 percent share, up 1 percent from its segment share in Q4 2019.
The compact van segment contracted over 5 percent to 16,700 units in Q4 2020, meaning Transit Connect sales fell faster than the segment average.
The numbers continue to speak for themselves: the Ford Transit Connect continued to dominate its segment during the fourth quarter of 2020, despite seeing an 8 percent sales drop, which we attribute to supply issues associated with the coronavirus pandemic.
Transit Connect production at the Ford Valencia plant in Spain was down for about 60 days between the first and second quarters of 2020. Production of the van restarted in May, and we expected sales to pick up in the fourth quarter on improved availability. This scenario didn’t play out. However, it’s worth noting that Q3 2020 figures represented a substantial improvement in Transit Connect sales over Q2 2020, when only 6,760 units were delivered. The Q4 2020 deliveries were down by 1,561 compared to Q3 2020.
For the 2021 model year, Ford will discontinue the Transit Connect Taxi package, while also making a few other minor changes to the compact van.
